The deaths of two teenage girls have prompted Chicago police to issue a warning about the "choking game"—asphyxiating oneself to gain a feeling of euphoria. Within just 2 weeks, the parents of Rebekah Toia, 15, and Angelena Ohanessian, 14, came home to find their children hanged.

I'm continually mystified by the extent kids will go to to get 'High', to 'feel.'
What the hell is it our kids are missing these days?!
It just beaks my heart, all their 'Emptiness'.

This thread is a 'follow up' of sorts to the thread Teens Now Getting High Off "Digital Drugs"

Luckily, 'digital drugs' are far from that (drugs) and are anything but 'mind blowing' and 'addictive'.

These news stories come out every couple of years.
When I was that age (not that long ago) no one had ever heard of anyone actually doing it, and neither has my siblings who are currently that age.
Don't think it's anywhere near as common as the news likes to make out.
More sensational news to keep people in fear.

Normally I would agree with you, but, in this case these two teens just died and as nothing can be as traumatic to a parent as loosing a child we end up seeing an uprising of awareness again.

Also, in this case, with there being the possibility of educating unaware parents to this 'game' and therefor saving young lives? Naw, all good this, no propagandic fear mongering here.

Seriously, whether this is about getting high or kids learning about certain British politicians and Michael Hutchence performing acts of erotic asphyxiation I don't know. Certainly a dark story.

I remember this when I was in high school. It was being described as the newest idea in cheap highs. Just so you know I was in high school a long time ago. It seems some just can't take the lessons from time past.

Thank you for posting this silo. The GASP website has a very good video which I will show my two kids (12 & 16) today along with your 4th video in this thread. I know they will roll their eyes and think I'm being overprotective, as they call it, and that it's unnecessary because they know they would never do something that could kill them. But I say, even if it gives them one teeny bit of information that could help them save their life or even one brain cell, it is well worth the few minutes out of their lives.

I will be asking my daughter's middle school principle to show the GASP website video to all students.

On an added note:

I just got through reading some comments posted after the 'how to' (choking game) videos on You Tube.

Some of the coments are just outstanding - kids warning kids.

Considering the comments usually found on You Tube, well, the alarm bells started to go off (again). If kids are going out of their way to be honest and sincere in warning others to the dangers of this 'game' - well - we can be pretty sure it isn't just another 'hoax'.

I'd love to re-post some of the comments here but i believe it's against T&C to post excerpt from other forums. I'll go check to make sure.

Yep. The story goes; the victims lead up to one young Goth kid and a website. The ending was the Goth kid's father was the perp and the FBI caught the father in the process of murdering his Goth son - by trying to hang him.

What an unfortunate comment. It's obvious you've never experienced kids making stupid decisions that endanger their well being simply out of naivety and inexperience...

Well, here's what happens when kids can't get a hold of relatively safe intoxicants such as marijuana.

On the other hand, this "choking game" story gets wheeled out every few months or so. It's just like the civet cat poop coffee story that pops up on slow news days. Doesn't everyone know about this already?

there are a few things concerning this to think about. especially when it comes to those your trying to protect. a funny thing about everyones reality. if you don't know about something it is not part of your life as in thought or action. and something i remember as a kid and even now as and adult. you can add to my reality something and tell me not to do it. but if its new i most likely will try it. i don't trust tptb. and i would almost go as far as to say they are making a massive deal out of this knowing at lest 50% of all kids this is taught to by telling them not to do it. will do it . so increasing the death toll of kids.
they use tv in this way.. ever wounder why everyone seems to have the same basic understandings of life and reality. tv programs our reality. so many things are within our worlds now that truly have nothing to do with it.. and such horrible things we have witnessed with our eyes on the tv. are part of our daily lives even tho we have never seen such insane things in life. and i hope most of you will never see or experience those crazy things that you see on tv as enjoyment. how sad and insane this world has become

Wow, you'd think for something 'wheeled out' so often as every few months even we'd all be aware of this danger.

As for your comparing the death of two beautiful teenage girls to the idiocy of adults paying gross amounts of cash to buy coffee beans mellowed by the intestinal juices of a wild civet before being expelled from their rectum?

If nothing else it just goes to show what a different page in life we're on.

As for me I'll continue to post about issues concerning kids in hopes I can make a difference, if even a small one. It's my opinion kids are the most priceless thing we have.
