Imagine for a second that another country were to invade the U.S in the name of finding our WMDs and stopping U.S hegemony. Americans that fight back would be insurgents. Do you honestly think that you can stop people with guns who are willing to avenge the deaths of their loved ones? Kill them and who takes over? More family or friends with guns. It's just a never-ending cycle.

To get to the core of the problem, you have to question why you are in these countries and what you are fighting for. If you believe the government's propaganda, then I don't know what else to say to you. They are using you as a pawn and if you willingly go along, then god help you.

It is widely believed that it was a telescopic lens attached to the camera, not a bi-pod. Were there men with AK-47s? Probably, but no hostile action was made towards US troops. That's the issue. How could they be determined as insurgents? The journalists were there reporting on a story.

I have seen it a few times and I have seen 100s of other videos as part of our intel before we flew our missions. The scenario is typical in you have bands of men with guns and they all have backup vans to move them quickly when need be and to carry supplies and weapons. There are no uniforms or markings other than weapons and the military way they move as a group. To the pilot it looked like what he typically sees as insurgents.

In this case I agree it was bad and looks bad, but there are other events happening that created the reason for the apache to be there in the first place. These bad situations do happen and every one of them are terrible, and everyone agrees with that, but the ROE is extremely limiting and the vast majority of the time missions are called off due to it and rightly so. In the case of troops under fire, decision are made with little time to analyzed it all and this can happen, but it is rare even though many want to say it was the norm.

Just my perspective on it all


One last note... why were the camera men following this group of men around? Camera men follow the fight...

There is NO honor in this stuff.

As a veteran who has been there, and done that.........nope. I won't do it again, and I will urge others, don't let this happen anymore.

Unfortunately, just like the words of a veteran who went before me, and I ignored them. my words will be ignored by way too many younger folks, who actually believe the hype of "you are keeping your country free!"
