Tax dollars to build mosques

U.S. underwrites fundraising tour for Islamic shrine at Ground Zero

By THE WASHINGTON TIMES

-

"The Washington Times

7:46 p.m., Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, executive director of the Cordoba Initiative, addresses a gathering as groups planning a proposed mosque and cultural center near Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan to be named Cordoba House showed and spoke about their plans for the center at a community board meeting in New York Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Community members both for and against the plan spoke during the meeting. (AP Photo/Craig Ruttle)

The State Department is sending Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf - the mastermind of the Ground Zero Mosque - on a trip through the Middle East to foster "greater understanding" about Islam and Muslim communities in the United States. However, important questions are being raised about whether this is simply a taxpayer-funded fundraising jaunt to underwrite his reviled project, which is moving ahead in Lower Manhattan.

Mr. Rauf is scheduled to go to Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Qatar, the usual stops for Gulf-based fundraising. The State Department defends the five-country tour saying that Mr. Rauf is "a distinguished Muslim cleric," but surely the government could find another such figure in the United States who is not seeking millions of dollars to fund a construction project that has so strongly divided America.

By funding the trip so soon after New York City's Landmarks Preservation Commission gave the go-ahead to demolish the building on the proposed mosque site, the State Department is creating the appearance that the U.S. government is facilitating the construction of this shameful structure. It gives Mr. Rauf not only access but imprimatur to gather up foreign cash. And because Mr. Rauf has refused to reveal how he plans to finance his costly venture, the American public is left with the impression it will be a wholly foreign enterprise. This contradicts the argument that a mosque is needed in that part of New York City to provide services for a burgeoning Muslim population. If so many people need the mosque so badly, presumably they could figure out a way to pay for it themselves."

This is amazing to me, how we continue to let political correctness destroy are very way of life here in America. I am so glad I am on the email list for actforamerica.org to keep me up to date on the real issues at hand. Is anyone else finally had enough with these so called peaceful Muslims? When will enough be enough, when they start legalizing Shariah Law? Look up other post regarding that topic by me.

evey day I learn more of the truth, they say the truth will set you free, frankly it scares me to death, but I am ready and willing to stand up for America no matter what the cost.

i used the " marks but i must be doing something wrong to make the snippets but I did post the web site please fix thank you.

Feds funding Ground Zero imam's Mideast trip

The imam behind a plan to build a mosque near Ground Zero is set to depart on a multi-country jaunt to the Middle East funded by the State Department -- raising concerns that taxpayers may be helping him with the controversial project's $100 million fund-raising goal.

Feisal Abdul Rauf is taking the publicly funded trip to foster "greater understanding" about Islam and Muslim communities in the United States, the State Department confirmed yesterday.

"He is a distinguished Muslim cleric," said State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley, when asked about the journey, reportedly to include stops in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Qatar.

"I think we are in the process of arranging for him to travel as part of this program, and it is to foster a greater understanding about the region around the world among Muslim-majority communities," he added.

Crowley said no fund-raising for the mosque and cultural center during the trip would be permitted. "That would not be something he could do as part of our program," he said.

Abdul Rauf said funds for the center will come from Muslims and members of his congregation.

But a London-based Arabic-language newspaper that interviewed Abdul Rauf reported that he says he also will collect money from Muslim and Arab nations around the world -- raising the possibility his goodwill mission could help him build contacts in oil-rich states.

"Does the State Department have any idea they are sending a guy to the Middle East who is going to be fund-raising perhaps among the very same people he will be meeting with?" asked Debra Burlingame, a 9/11 family member.

my head is spining today were and when does this madness stop, how easily this government gives away our tax dollars with out debt being totaly out of controll i just cant get my arms or wallet around this gang can you?

Oh boy, some of the posters here on ATS are gonna be foaming at the mouth, popping blood vessels at your thread and commentary. I'm sure from here on out you will be labeled as dumb, intolerant, etc..... I've learned that you are not allowed to have an opinions when it comes to Islam/Muslims unless you are defending them. insert political correctness.....Sigh.

I wish the government would use our tax dollars for something other than religious centers. Hows about they improve our schools?

Here.

If the state dept is funding this it is coming from our tax dollars.

I too get the Act for America newsletter and saw this web site this morning.. in fact.. I just got up and was gonna make a thread and drmeola beat me to it. LOL

If this is a fundraising trip and this guy is using the money to build his mosque that is dead wrong, but I read it as this is speculation at this point.

The Act for America newsletter gives stats saying now 68 % of Americans polled are against this mosques location.

EDIT:

I agree that the state dept should not fund this guys trip. That is 100% Un- American.

This guy has been linked to muslin extremists and has in the past supported the extremist position. I have a thread about that here with words saying this from the man's own mouth. It's like the state dept is now supporting terrorists.

I do not trust this guy one bit to not collect money from the extremists and use it against Americans.

"The Government Confiscates Your Money to Build Mosques"

gatewaypundit.firstthings.com...

Newsweek, the Washington Post’s former progressive stepchild, published an op-ed by Fareed Zakaria, the in-house lapdog for the Administration, extolling the virtues of building the Ground Zero Mosque. A couple of sentences demand a great deal more explanation.

To that end, early in its tenure the Bush administration began a serious effort to seek out and support moderate Islam. Since then, Washington has funded mosques, schools, institutes, and community centers that are trying to modernize Islam around the world.

I'm not sure what to think about this. I'm against the Mosque being built there, but I would feel the same way for any place of worship being built there regardless of the religion. While the site know as Ground Zero in Manhattan is "holy" to many Americans for reasons most understand, it is not a place to have a Mosque, Temple, Church....etc... built on site.

Unfortunately, many Americans hold Muslims as a whole in disregard due to many things done. Whether it is the 9/11 attack, beheading innocent people, kidnappings, threats to murder anyone not following their said religion, stoning girls who would rather choose their own mate than to be set up with a specified spouse by their parents. Freakish torture. The list goes on.

Name a single religion which doesn't have horrible skeletons in the closet. I know I can't.

It's a mindset that will not go away soon. Every time a person of Muslim Faith makes a threat towards mankind using Nuclear, Biological Super bugs and the like only increases the animosity towards the whole community of Islam. A simple fact.

If they build a Mosque there, how many people across the nation will think of plans in their dark dens in the middle of the night, scribbling on pads of paper with a pencil how they plan to fly a plane into the mosque.

That is not meant to be funny. Seriously. Think about that statement I just made. Is it so outlandish?

For that reason alone, I have decided while I type that I say NO to the mosque.

It is not being built on ground zero. That is just what the opposition is trying to get you to believe so rest assured, it is not being built at or on ground zero. All better now?

Apparently no tax dollars are funding it either. All good here.

So that would be a big fat "NO" to my request for information on any tax dollars funding the building of this mosque? Headlines just to play on the boogey man of the day then?

Can you read?

It works like this. The state dept pays for this trip with my tax dollars, then when this guy goes overseas he solicits his extremist friends for money to build the mosques. So in essence our tax dollars are contributing to the building of this mosque.

And then there is also this:

To that end, early in its tenure the Bush administration began a serious effort to seek out and support moderate Islam. Since then, Washington has funded mosques, schools, institutes, and community centers that are trying to modernize Islam around the world.

Yes, I can read and I do not see anything stating tax dollars are paying for fundraising.

You mean the same Bush that funded Christian programs like "Abstinence Only Teaching?" That Bush? Yeah, what else did he fund? What other religions are on that list? Or are you just looking for a loose connection between Bush policies, a state funded trip, and blaming the current administration for funding the building of mosques?

Mosques, Synagogues, Temples or Churches, I think that it's BS that the government, State or Federal would fund anything having to do with religion.
