i came up blank after a search. may not have used correct terms.

anyhow, my interest is in finding good sources for gear.
i'm not sure about whether this is allowed on this site.
but can we have a thread where we can post links to places that are reasonable as far as price?
i think many here would be grateful to save some money.

one place i trust, have ordered from in the past is maine military

in all actuality i know ov cheaper places, but these guys are trustworthy.

mods, delete this if a bad idea.

In answer, learn to make as much of your gear as you can out of what you can find or pick up for next to nothing. That way if you lose anything or worse, are mugged and stripped for it, you will have the basic skills to go fabricate new equipment.

Great idea Rubbertramp !
This is something that is more and more on people's minds lately,
and I think this would be a great place for such a resource.
S&F.....Thanks.

actually, yea, i've got one.
i have an awesome green surplus wall tent, and am having trouble finding a quality backpack tent. few pounds or so.
i cant find a camo, let alone forest green, or desert brown colors.
seems most quality tents these days are produced in bright neon colors.
i'd like to find something that won't easily be spotted from space.

resources are varied...

here are a few i have parked in a 'Resource' folder in my 'Windows' index of favorites:

beprepared.com...
djerriwarrh.com...-1515
www.shtfplan.com...
raptureready.com...
www.off-grid.net...
www.survivalblog.com...
www.grannysstore.com...
www.leow.de...
www.thecandlemaker.com...

just a few venues... or resources that may be of interest in your survival preparedness... there are plenty of others that are valuable to specific needs of your individualistic tastes/priorities

Ive also found that there is allot of different finds at flea markets, and thrift stores, many thing there that people would never think they can use in an emergency, walk out the house with $50 bucks and find a gold mine.

BTW for those that live in smaller towns check online for bartering sites, we have some great ones in the mid-west, and don't over look the online do it yourself resources, always good.

Peace to you...

i'm a vendor, flea markets, different shows etc..
i'm also a hound for yard sales and thrift stores.
i find great stuff, antiques, lots of stuff to re-sell, yet very little survival oriented merchandise. nothing i really want to keep.
i do find camping gear, but rarely quality stuff.
i did find a killer northface sleeping bag a couple weeks ago at a thrift store for 10 bucks.

check out the many US government surplus auctions.

I won't do the links just google them. Beware of a site asking for $ to give you the information . Its free and the sites are around the country.
Another source would be Universities. They are in dire need for cash and they have public auctions.

Does anyone have any advice on building a Faraday Cage?
Is it worth it? Would it pay to build one around a portable generator? And the around other electronics....
Might be very relevant with the way the Sun is behaving!

i used to have my auction numbers. clueless about online auctions, i'll check it out.
the problem that came about was a couple of dealers took over. bidding wars etc....
they'd pull in with a few semis and take everything.
