Help me identify a movie

I am a fanatic about end of the world, post apocalyptic movies. I love everything from zombie movies to the the day after. As long as the world as we know it has ended, I'm happy.

About ten years ago I watched a French movie about the end of the world. In the movie, there were so few survivors that those who had survived, forgot how to speak. Although the movie had sound it was, more or less, a silent movie.

The man who was the star found another man who was holding a woman captive and he wanted the girl. The only way to get her was to kill the "owner" and take her.

As I said, I watched this a long time ago and I can't remember the name of the movie, does anyone remember this movie?

I'm sorry but I can't remember anymore than that, I only remember that it was an excellent film and I would like to see it again.
