It seems that this was completely unexpected. Basically it just blew and sadly 4 people have died.

I can't find any links that provide further information other than those noted. There is a picture of the volcano when quiet in the second additional link.

I have provided a link to the Smithsonian entry on this volcano. They are well up to date! They already have it as last erupting in 2010.

Seeing as you are a regular on the earthquake scene,do you think that the Moro gulf activity is connected with this event and maybe trigger some other eruptions ,say Mayon or Pinataubo?

Would that be pronounced Karangetang to rhyme with Orangutan?

It cuts off your title to just say VID and I was thinking this was some new index of the eruption I had not heard of before. I was going, wow how big is that one if I havent read about it....

I suppose it could have had an effect, but the 6.3 in the Molucca sea was much closer.

Pinatubo and Mayon are probably too far away, but who knows!!

Before people cry that this is a sign of nibiru or the coming apocalypse let me remind you that this volcano erupted forty-one times since 1675.
It is the most active volcano in Indonesia.
