If you haven't tried this experiment, you might find it enlightening, as I did. If you've been following this board on ATS pretty closely and you have a sense that "something" big is about to happen, try this: Stop reading ATS for about 6 months to a year. It might be hard, but you can take up reading some other stuff during that time - like I did when I decided to follow the global economic downturn and stop reading about aliens.

First thing that happened: nothing. The sense I had that something big was about to happen regarding aliens went away. Aliens didn't arrive. Instead, I became fairly convinced that industrial civilization was about to start collapsing, but then of course that's what I was reading about every day!

Then, after about 6 months, come back to the aliens board on ATS and see where everything is at. My guess (I haven't caught up on the newest threads yet) is that there's some new disclosure just around the corner, some more blurry photos, videos of "rods" (are those still popular?), some threads about meditating to talk to aliens, etc. But nothing really is happening.

Has anyone else experienced this? If I get wrapped up in ATS again, I'll probably start thinking there's something to it again, and I'll forget about the collapse stuff.

I'm new to ATS, I've only been a member for a month. I came here believing that some of the UFO's had to be alien spacecraft. After one month I realize that UFOlogy is a religion and nothing more. Your assessments are absolutely correct, disclosure is just around the corner, the fuzzy dirt spec on the lens of the camera is proof that aliens are here and the cults are still meditating/praying to the aliens.

I was a peruser, long before a member, and have left for periods of time.

It's same old stuff, different day mostly, except for the news.

I pretty much have decided the Aliens and UFO forum is defunct!

There are some great threads but how do you find them? Randomly grazing the threads leaves me wondering if its worth the effort sometimes.

But then you find one of those great topics that pulls you in and opens the door to a whole new way of thinking about something and that makes it all worthwhile.

I did the same thing and felt much better by doing so. Now I kind of just lurk and observe. Maybe set some events into motion that will further my goals...I mean just watch and wait. But when the usual happens, which is nothing, I always get a good laugh.

The power of suggestion is a beautiful, yet deadly thing my friend.

There's a fine line between reading news on here, becoming informed, or just getting your daily dose of "wacky" entertainment from some of these threads.

I visit ATS everybody for all of the above. I don't put much weight into the Aliens and Doom threads, sure it could happen, do I believe in Aliens?

Yes.

Do I believe they are coming to say hello?

No, why would they?

As far as our civilization collapsing, that's inevitable, all cultures rise and fall in due time.

What you're saying is very true, but I thought you were going to also say that you observed that the overall level of intelligence seems to have gone down around here as of late...

It has been feeling pretty darn "sheepish" around here lately for a conspiracy forum.

It is summer after all Diplomat, from what I've noticed this happens every year.

The best ATS months are during the winter, we all know that.

Summer on ATS is entertainment, the rest of the year it's a conspiracy forum with intellect and serious discussion.

That's odd that you brought that up I have been thinking there isn't much happening in the UFO realm.

They are there, I am positive, I don't know who or what they are or where they are from, but they are there.

and they will communicate with some.

That's a good way to put it. The point of my post wasn't really to say something about this forum, per se. It says more about a general experience that I think probably happens to a lot of us.

So - if folks are willing to try it, they can go follow some completely different topic on some other website and see how it makes them start thinking that THAT is what's going on in the world.

We tend to see around us what we surround ourselves with.

Interesting statement!

Still want to solicit funds for your alien reception area?

I agree with you most certainly.

The more you expose yourself to a certain topic or situation, the more you think about it and THINK it will happen, the more likely it IS to happen.

Creative Visualization is no myth or theory.

We are creatures of our environment, ever evolving to deal with the situation at hand, this is why ATS has been good for me, it's a resource of MANY different situations and topics.

It keeps me from focusing on one particular one.

No. The more you think about something the more you convince yourself you are right and the more you deny the opinions of people who disagree with you.

Its called paranoia.

I think its all down to the individual.

If you are the type of person that can be quite easily led or if you find yourself getting caught up in the hype easily then I could see how ATS might not be a good place to spend a lot of time, i mean if you believed everything you read on here then you would end up hiding out in a basement and probably having a nervous breakdown.

A persons judgement and common sense counts for a lot around here

What you are refering to is more like conviction IMO.

Paranoia would be when you think there's somebody after you, you know like when your paranoid....

Then again, I have a different perspective as I've been practicing Creative Visualization for years now and along with meditation, there's nothing you aren't capable of doing, creating your own reality is the simplest of them.

Very good post! I'm a believer but there are credulous people who drag the rest of us down by reporting obvious hoaxes and misidentifications and believing any old crap.

I've seen stuff that I truly can't explain but I wouldn't come on here stating that I've seen an alien craft!

Conviction by a paranoid person. You can wrap it up whatever way makes you feel good but the result is the same.

Creative Visualisation? You mean just making it up don't you? Please provide empiricle proof of this method. I can create my own reality in my mind but I don't think I can prove it in a court of law.

Give examples.

You can't explain spirituality or conciousness can you?

I can't explain why I'm succesfull at mostly everything that I do, or why my life is exceptionally full and happy, but I know it's because I've strived for it, and told myself that I wanted this life to be this fufilling.

Empirical Evidence? Of Meditation? That's simply impossible my friend.

I suggest you read into it.

This link is a good start, although it discusses sporting, which I've never used it for, but just replace sporting with anything else, love, money etc..

en.wikipedia.org...

Here's a link to an Ebook which I read recently on the topic..

It's been four years since my own sighting; four years of confusion and often intense, obsessive curiosity, and I was just thinking about this today: I have almost nothing to show for it.

I've been at ATS for a lot of this time because this is a good place to see new events in the UFO community. Of course, you have to separate the misidentified majority from the truly mysterious minority. But what I've realized is that I have basically no more answers than when I started, and not even many more questions, either.

I think maybe you're right. As much as I suspect that there are people who DO know - and COULD tell me - what it was that I saw, in the back of my mind there is always a voice telling me calmly, "It's no use, you may as well give it up. Nobody is going to disclose anything unless they're absolutely forced to." And while part of me wants to fight to do just that - somehow force disclosure, a bigger part of me wants to get on with the rest of my life. And anyway, disclose what, exactly? I don't even know what it was.

I do suspect there is a cover-up. The sad thing is that the longer this cover-up continues, the more bizarre and radical pseudo-religious UFO explanations the populace will concoct. In other words, the longer they put off disclosure, the worse it will be when disclosure actually happens. But I guess these people don't care about that.

People have been born, grown old, and died without ever knowing the truth about UFO's. I suppose I shouldn't expect my life to be any different.

... But it won't stop me from looking once in a while.
