Two men held over MI6 and Downing Street parcel bombs

www.guardian.co.uk

Two men are being held by police today after two parcel bombs reportedly addressed to 10 Downing Street and MI6 were intercepted last week.

The suspects, aged 52 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of explosive offences at separate addresses in Caernafon, north Wales, on Friday by Metropolitan police officers and local police.

Well according to Above Top Secret. Com I have to write at least 50 words before I can tell you about this. If i am honest i don’t really know if this has a thread or not, but I haven’t seen anything. This strikes me an important development, looks like these guys are not Irish or Islamic terrorists so they are most likely from some other group. Also they are not being held under the Terrorism Act but the Explosives Act.

that's what i find funny about incidents like this. we seem to pick and choose whats terrorism as it suites are agenda's . ask yourselves if they were Muslim would this be a bigger story? would it then be terrorism? would it be a bigger story if they were Irish? if so would it be terrorism?
the only difference i can see is that we taught both of the above how to make bombs in the first place.

I have to say i do agree with you, if this was a couple of Muslim’s it would be big news and everybody would be going around irrationally screaming “Al’Qa’Ida”. It saddens me to think that the reason this is a explosives charge rather than one of terrorism is purely because of the colour of their skin.

You're right - up to now NOTHING has been mentioned about their backgrounds besides the fact that two men from Wales have been arrested.

Just speculation at the moment..

Personally I'm finding it funny that no one has stated what group these people belong to? They could be Welsh nationalist's, there have been small pockets of them who are very anti English in North Wales for decades. But they usually target English owned holiday homes. It could also be the Irish republicans going on tour again, after all Caernafon is less than an hour away from Holyhead port which has ferries going straight to Ireland (with very little customs checks) Or it could be the Muslim nutters yet again. Personally i believe it is one of the latter two, as i haven't heard of any attack of this kind against establishment building in England by the Welsh Nationalists in the past.

Basically North Wales is home to the Viet Taff - the home rule for wales nutters.

They used to set fire to holiday cottages- now they seem to have thought up a new plan and failed. Many of our international readers will probably not also know that the Official IRA - not the Provos sold the Welsh independence fighters guns during the 1970s.

FWIW sending a bomb to the MI6 headquarters has about as much chance of sucess as trying to get a pork pie into a mosque.

Well one of the men they arrested is also being charged with drug offences.

A MAN arrested after suspected parcel bombs were sent to MI6 headquarters and 10 Downing Street has been charged with drug offences.

Aly Akbar Khan, 52, is due to appear at Caernarfon Magistrates Court on Monday charged with possessing Class A drugs with the intention to supply.

A second man, 21, also arrested in the explosives probe has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The two were arrested in separate raids in a joint operation by the Metropolitan and North Wales police forces early on Friday morning.

They were arrested under Section 4 of the Explosives Act after two suspicious packages were found last week.
