I realise this has been rumbling on for quite some time now. He says he wants peace but has moved troops up to the borders with Columbia. There seems to be a reference to August the 7th, but I have nor ascertained what that is yet but it looks as if it may be an election in Columbia?

Maybe the Spanish speakers can make more sense of that bit using the alternative link.

Alvaro Uribe - Columbian President assumed power 7th August 2002.

All I can find is this "Barred from 3rd term" which would suggest that he should not be President now, or maybe that is where the 7th August comes in. It seems very unclear. Any input from someone knowledgeable on the subject would be appreciated.

Edit: As I understand it the Presidential elections are held in May and the President assumes office in August thus Uribe will not be President of Colombia in August 2010. (Please correct me if I am wrong)

It would seem therefore that Chavez is considering the next incumbent may be worse.

Thanks for that, I had sort of worked out that must be what was happening but it really did not say so clearly in the article

Thanks again.

I don't know, just wild speculation here, but could Chavez be trying to get the US to focus some of its Military resources to the South?

Taken as a whole, the 'Big Picture', if Venezuela moves on Columbia ( our Ally in the War on Drugs ) will the US have to send resources south?

Or have they already? I recall reading a few posts a while back about 46 ships being sent to Costa Rica, not too far from Venezuela on the map.

Another piece of the puzzle, along with the M.E. and SE Asia.

Another world war, anyone?
