Russian boy in U.S. adoption case back in orphanage, attorney says

Artyem carried with him a letter signed by his adoptive mother, Torry Hansen of Shelbyville, Tennessee. In it, she said the boy was "mentally unstable" with violent tendencies, and that she had been misled about his mental condition.

"I am sorry to say that for the safety of my family, friends and myself, I no longer wish to parent this child," the letter read. "As he is a Russian national, I am returning him to your guardianship and would like the adoption (annulled)."

What does this woman think? The young boy is not an object/item, he is a human being. He like anyone else has emotions and feelings.

He maybe mentally unstable, but the boy was living in an orphanage, with no parents, siblings, and probably felt abandoned. And at a young age, it sure takes a toll on the boy.

Russia has also suspended US Adoptions because of this sad situation.

I wish the kid the best, and hopefully a family will take him into thier arm's even though he maybe "mentally unstable", and even help him through it. That's what a family is for.

Its just a sad situation no orphan should have to go through.

I don't know what the "Foster Mom" was thinking, that she was going to get a child thats perfect?

Hey she kept her receipt ,and if it was broken there should be a warranty.

A truly sad situation. Woman like that should never be allowed to have children. Think is good that for the time being russia is stopping adoptions to the u.s. Hopefully as a way to improve vetting potential adoptive parents to avoid such problems in future.. If wasnt so old would contact them myself to adopt the boy.. Raised 4 adopted children.. Sterile thanks to agent orange so adopted 4 vietnamese children who had been orphaned during the war. Theyre grown and doing alright for themselves.. Just saddens me to see children suffer due to the stupidity of adults.. Hope the boy finds a good home with a family that will love him.

Ugh, if there was a problem she should've contacted the adoption agency and not just stuck that poor kid in an airplane and fly by himself across the world to the other side. And I wonder, what agency did she go to where they just gave her a mentally unstable kid, who was so abusive to her that made her just give up on him.
