I am an Atheist and I believe the community that shares my name is giving me a bad rap along with the help of theists constant bashing of people that do not subscribe to their beliefs.

I to create a forum where we can discuss Atheism and answer any questions about its theories , history , and goals here.

I will start by saying I am an Atheist and believe most gods of today can , in fact, be proven wrong according to their attributes. I also believe religion can be healing and a great asset to society as long as there is no doctrine for immediate or imminent harm.

I believe an Atheist can be spiritual in the sense that we all deal with the human condition and some practices alleviate symptoms of it.

If you are an Atheist and want to tell us about yourself and your beliefs go ahead this is your thread also.

And if you have any questions you would like to address to myself or any other atheist , please feel free to do so.

I am considering myself to be atheist. Although I share a trait with the pagans. I've always, since my early years, though and felt the earth to have some type of consciousness. No scientific proof for that, but that it what I still feel. I do not consider it/her/him to be a god.

And since I don't think of anything in "god" term - I therefor am an atheist. Not an agnostic since I believe that the lack of proof does not validate the need to faith. No proof == no gods.

Having said that - I would not throw religion away right away. It has proven to be a strong binding force. Helped my people go through some tough times. Granted it created many bad moments in human history too.

Bottom line: atheists don't want religion destroyed. Most of us just don't want one religious group to dictate the moral conduct. And contrary to common belief - atheist can be deeply spiritual/humain people.

I sometimes feel it's not the belief/lack of that makes the man. Some people just have common sense - other don't :/

Yeah I hear you. I really think religion and other such nuance are just a catalyst for deeper , primal reasons of human conflict. It is not religion or such that caused humans to act badly sometimes but human nature itself.

I see your point, I am Boon. Far too often on these religion or atheist threads I always see atheists saying "we feel" or "We are"
Sometimes I just wanna say STFU! speak for yourself! I used to be an atheist and that would annoy me if others were grouping me together like that. If I had a belief in no gods, then it should end there, because at the end of the day thats not what should define you. You are who you are because of your interests, your personality.

Definitely , my belief is just one facet of what "I"am , whatever that may be. That is also why I hate Atheists or theists calling others "dumb" , "evil" , "ignorant" and such.

If you are going to debate a personal belief prepare to have those beliefs challenged and dissected until no more doubt remains. If you cannot handle it , don't debate!

What I find ironic is Atheists are some of the most tolerant people I have ever met, christians-eh not so much. You sound like someone I could have a beer with. Or more LOL. I think the main point is people dont like being preached to, no matter what the agenda is. This is when all the name calling comes in, and all intelligent discourse, goes.

Do we really need another atheist vs religion thread?
I'm an atheist, but this is just ridiculous.
You might not think it's going to be one of those, but it will end up being exactly that.

As much as I hate agreeing with an athiest, I'm going to have to here. I could start that donnybrook, but I'm not even going to bother except to say:

When you athiests get to be old and approaching death's door, tell me again how much of an athiest you are.

Out.

This is not an Atheism vs. thread... it is a discussion about Atheism , what each of us believes , and to clear up the misconceptions towards us. Thx for responding but I will not participate in any debates.

I am not good at writing what I feel and believe, excuse me if is not grammatically correct.
I am an Atheist in search of the afterlife.
I am on the fence in believing that ghost exist.
I don't believe that ghosts are related to a god.
Even though I am an Atheist I still follow some of the teachings of various "religious" deities and I believe that some of the things that they have taught humanity should be followed.
I attend religious activities and participate in them if they are for a good cause that will help the community and I am able to see the results of such activities.
When I'm in doubt about something that I am not sure if it is wrong or right, I look at nature for answers. Using this method has opened my eyes to many things that I was constantly told were wrong.
The religious people that I don't like are the ones who are fake and do not truly follow their God.
The Atheists that I don't like are the ones that are always angry and those who pretend to be religious and take advantage of the believers by using their faith to control them and abuse them.
It bothers me when someone claims to be "from the lord" and does not behave accordingly.
I believe that some type of religion is needed and that some people would become "monsters" if they didn't have this religion and that the "fear of God" is the only thing that prevents these people from doing really bad things.
If I had the money, I would build a "church" and teach the things that I have found to be good and helpful from every one, not just religious deities.

This is a poor attempt to mirror this thread www.abovetopsecret.com......

Come up with your own ideas rather than standing on the back of those that do.

I trhought that went sour and this is turning out fine.... I dunno but so far no debates or anything else . I also didn't realize that was its purpose. No hard feelings I still think this thread is doing well and staying on task. If not then delete it... NP by me.

I didn't mean to copy anyone else.

I'm just saying, people tend to get religion when the uncertainly of death looms large. Athiest or religious, you still have to rely on whatever brand of "faith" you subscribe to for comfort.

I had a girlfriend whose dad passed away. He was an athiest to the end. He was true to himself to the end - gotta give him that.

It looks like people are missing the point in the world and on this forum. This issue has nothing to do with religion or atheism, Its about pride. People feel the need to be right and to prove themselves.

I don't believe in a God, I believe in a creator, and spirits. Does that mean i'm an atheist too? How come atheists aren't called spiritualists?

Not really. Just trying to make sure he doesn't do anything unethical.
