Hello ATS,

I know this is not the usual topic but I must post something along such lines.

Starcraft II, takes me away from the depressions of life; the constant strife - At least temporarily - And I enjoy it. I must say the storyline so far is very thought-invoking.

May all ATS'ers who grew up on Starcraft enjoy the new one - It's probably a half decent passtime.

At least until Wintersun's "Time" is released..

i beated starcraft 2 campaign yesterday,i stayed until 3 am. and it was gREAT
the ending was GREAT!
10 years waiting was worth it. but people like dustin browder and other rich bastards just want to take your money. a starcraft 2 calender 20 euro are you joking?
and when you make a battle.net account you have to agree to "blizzard can see all your write on chat and all your messages on starcraft 2" is it even LEGAL for them to do that?

This was funny, the whole star craft 2 thing. I was talking with my nephew a while back and he was showing me a thing in game informer about how star craft 2 was comming out. I laughed and did not think much of it because i was thinking this game has been "comming out soon" since i was his age.
I loved the original starcraft and the expansion, however Im starting to believe that RTSs have hit a wall. Some years ago the decided to add some small RPG ellements by making one really overpwered unit that you could level up but I am not sure what else they can add. I am still undecided about SC2 just because im not sure if i want to play another RTS.

Yup perfectly legal since you are using their online service and you agree to those terms when you sign up.

I'm right there with you. I'm just not sure if I want to spend $59 on a game I may not enjoy for more than a few hours.

Yeah i think i will wait untill it drops down to 20 dollars before i try it out. I think RTSs in general will share the same fate as the fighting games of the 90s faced (street fighter, mortal combat and marvel vs capcom). I believe that the entire genre needs to be revamped, this is one case where the wheel does need to be re-invented. The only thing i could think of is adding more RPG elements and adding different parts to the game. Like making it more sandbox type (like civilization meets grand theift auto) and turning parts of the game into 3rd or first person shooters like when you have to take the main building of the enemy base. Then the choices you make on what city/base/enemy to take over effects the story line and how you interact with your generals would make a difference also.
These are just my ideas on how this could be done, for the most part the only thing that has changed with RTSs is better graphics and they have gone overboard with this in some cases, when you are controlling a group of 50-100 units to attack another 100 units much of the graphics that are being displayed are really a waste of resources.

I've been playing on Battle.net taking breaks from the campaign every now and again and here is my take.

SC2 imo added elements that where needed in SC1. Like the auto mine feature or multiple building selection or the ability to select as many units as you want.

Really SC2 turned starcraft into a more micro (maneuvers) based RTS. No longer do you have to focus so hard in making sure each and every unit is being produced efficiently or every miner is doing something. You don't have to pay as much attention to the piddly stuff anymore. I like that you focus more on strategy than just building a base and massing troops.

Sure you still mass troops but it isn't about who gets more of what attacking each other. SC2 really adds importance to how you use your units while maintain All-Balance classes that we all revered in the first one.

I think SC2 improved upon an already perfect RTS. That is no easy feat by any means. I think Blizzard did a great job maintaining perfection with the Starcraft Series thankfully.

So far, I tend to feel the same. Blizzard has done a great job at making a game that's both enjoyable and nostalgic for the older fans like us. Yet, at the same time, they have made a game that appeals to the newer gamers that know little about the StarCraft universe. All in all, I like what I'm seeing.

A friend bought the collectors edition and sent me a code for 7 hours of game time.
My overall opinion; It's Starcraft in every sense so if you loved the original you'll love this one.

the game is great, and by research i mean, you have a LAB,and you can upgrade "the bunker to have 6 placeS" and cool stuff like that.
the only thing that makes me mad,is they actualy made dustin browder a 3d unit avatar for the golitah mercenarys. what kinda of an ego...rrr bastard
that bold guy had 10 years to release the game, instead of laghting at fans, that hes the only one who plays it.

I will say though, It's pretty cool to have your face in a popular video game.. Way cool.. (if it was mine anyway)

Im just suprised it took them 12 years to come out with a game that's pretty much the same as the first one.

What surprised me more is that they sold 1.5 Million copies in the first 48 hours!! That's phenomenal!

It's pretty much the same but there are new units and it takes a lot of work to make everything allbalance.

If you haven't played the campaign yet it's obvious a lot of thought went into it as it is much more in depth than the first one. They actually have 2 other expansions planned. They've been working on those for a good chunk too.

The game is good, but it can feel pretty overwhelming as a Zerg player at times. Being forced to react to whoever you're playing against every time can be a little frustrating. It would be nice if the Zerg had units that allowed them to dictate the flow of the game, or if they had a way to fast tech to tier 3 units like Protoss and Terrans(especially Terrans) do. As it stands, if you're online and playing as Zerg, you have to wait and see what comes your way and hope you can build the counter fast enough and in great enough numbers to barely hold out.

I win as zerg often in gold league so I'm going to give you a little tip. By midgame if you don't have like 3 or 4 expansions you loose. It's very easy to tech up as zerg. You just need resources.

Yeah well i've been playing zerg. Was in Beta, and did alright, then got the real game, and played single player... once that campaign was over and i went into multi-player, i was done and dusted. Forogt how to play zerg again. Been playing all day today and i'm just actually starting to figure zerg out again after getting hammered a fair few times....

Yes expansions are a must, you need min 3 expansions mid game else your gunned. best op for 4. then you',llll really hit home.

Seems to me you need to go with an extra hatchery on your main base, and then expand asap after that while pushing forward with zerglings, etc...., and starting building some anti-air asap or else ur screwed. Zerg need anti air defence and even a couple spine crawlers... Units dont always measure up .
