Some interesting news here, apparantly the people who control domain name resoling or something or other, have given control to 7 people to restart the internet, incase of a terror attack or other catastrophic event.

The 7 people orgiginate from; Canada, China, Burkina Fasso, Trinidad and Tobago, Czech Republic, United States and United Kingdom.

There is a secret location in the United States, where the key holders would have to travel to incase of an emergency.

Read more about it here:

And just how is the internet going to be restarted when it resides on bazillions of peoples servers around the world? Anything short of a few nukes to take out large cities that have many important servers is not going to hurt the internet any.
It's called a world wide web for a reason because it doesn't all sit on one computer locked away somewhere that can just be restarted by a key.
Sorry OP but all this talk about restarting the internet or shutting it down just sounds stupid to me. If you understand how the internet works and what it is then it doesn't take a genius to figure out it can't just be 'restarted'.
Yes you can shutdown a large DNS but that will not take down the internet nor would it keep people from starting up some kind of alternative large DNS.
