WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The restaurant menus in the three House office buildings will change the name of "french fries" to "freedom fries," a culinary rebuke of France, stemming from anger over the country's refusal to support the U.S. position on Iraq.
Ditto for "french toast," which will be known as "freedom toast."

www.cnn.com...

I got a kick out of this, they really are changing their menus. Oddly enough, I was reading this article over my lunch, a salad with freedom dressing and a piece of freedom bread and a cup of freedom vanilla coffee, while peering out the freedom doors that lead to my deck. Anyway, I hope France comes to their senses. I'm sure I'll hear from Nans on this one.

I hope every American restaurant or fast food place changes the name of all french food to something more American. I hear there's also going to be a boycott of all french goods in the US
I heard that France makes 9 million each year from us buying their crap, if we can get a good boycott going then we can really make them feel sorry for not going with us. Then again lets wait and see what happens at the vote.

ps., Arc - chips are potato chips, not fries. And its not holiday its vacation, you go to college not to university. And stop saying 'cheers' so much!

would "freedom polishing" and, for that matter, "freedom letters" make sense in the US?
It is all a bit Newspeak: one can only imagine the high-level staff meeting that preceded this milestone in risibility.

You're all wrong.

They aren't "French Fries" or "Freedom Fries".

They are Surrender Taters.

IMO, it shouldn't matter what they're called...I'll still eat them.

It's nothing more than just a few somebodies with a bug up their butt about being "politically correct"...Which is the *cause* of more misunderstandings than what it solves.

yeah, I can see you lot doing a lot of 'freedom kissing'

This is the kind of stuff that makes the rest of the world stare disconcertingly at you, with mouth slightly screwed in distaste and a world-weary sigh. If your going to do this kind of stuff, I wouldnt publicise it. It just makes you look like a bunch of crass uneducated children and adds more ammo to the 'thick Americans' arguments.

this was raised in a thread a few days back....

"I'm sure I'll hear from Nans on this one. "

I suggested that Nans would call them "Fascist Fries", and still didn't get her to bite, hehe...

We can't call them chips Arc....chips come in a bag and are good with dip...

Crisps eh? 'potato crisps' or just crisps?

I am however highly fond of your usage of the word 'piss' - a Brit I know once told me he was 'on the piss.' I thought that was probably the most humorous thing I had ever heard in my entire life.

no, just crisps.

piss is good.
if your drunk, then your pissed.

Scottish people however say 'thats pish' and 'im pished'
we have about 100 words for being drunk

we may also tell you to go piss up a rope if you annoy us whilst we are out on the piss

it appears the scots are more polite however as in the south drunken people prefer to be wankered

It must be so reassuring to Americans that they are governed by such children.
