Need your help - Please check out a Google Mars coordinate for me and tell me if you don't think that this is something of great interest. Go to: 35deg14min51.02sec North, and 74deg43min17.56sec East.

By the by, I am a sky watcher and have been reading alot of Zacharia Sitchen lately.

Greetings kimwarrior.

From where do you hail?

I live in North Alabama. Have worked at an aerospace firm for years. What area do you come from? - Kim

I hail from the great state of Kentucky, but have been held captive by my partner in marriage(my wife) here in Maine for 8 years.

Welcome to ATS!

PS

I have trouble looking up these coordinates on google mars.

My wife and I have raised three girls now and I find that I have more time to read.

For those coordinates, what I found is what appears to be a huge, long cylinder of an object resting inside a crater. It is long and dark looking. Hopefully others have seen it too. I can't wait until NASA sends more probes to Mars (for better and more complete mapping of the entire surface)

Google Mars
35deg14min51.02sec North, and 74deg43min17.56sec East

35 15 51.02N, 74 43 17.56E

This is what I see. Probably worthy of a real thread rather than a casual comment in an introductory post. Though personally I find the object itself far less intersting than the surrounding terrain. My first impression was that your object appears on the border of two different images that were taken at very different resolutions, but on second glance, if you zoom out there's a large area between your coordinates and Nilosyrtis Mensae that looks suspiciously flat, and doesn't particularly match the surrounding terrain.

In any case, welcome to ATS.

Thanks for posting this picture. So I was not seeing things. I really think that we might find a lot of interesting things on Mars as we continue to explore it. Maybe even proof of alien visitations going way back in history. (Just like they visited Earth]

Another thing. I thought that we were supposed to be getting better, higer resolution pictures than this. Who do I contact to ask for a better snapshot of this Lat Long?

Here's the web interface to the Mars Global Surveyor image raws.

Hard to use map. Could not focus in on 35deg14min51.02sec N, 74deg43min17.56sec E like I could with Google Mars. I wounder if there is a better map I could use.

Kimwarrior -

I also share an extreme interest in Martian anomalies...wonder if you've tried contacting J. Skipper at

marsanomalyresearch.com...

He's got some really interesting finds there...as well as some that may be a lil difficult to explain, but, He's always been quick with a response to a question re: a previously unreported anomaly, even if he's aware of it and not posted anything on it yet. He's a great blood-hound to let loose tracking down photos/ resolutions of areas in question.

Also, try the ESA (Eurpean) site / mars express image database...you might find better resolution pics there of this area.

Good luck

Thanks much. I will run this down. By the by, Zacherin Sitchen believes that we will find proof of alien visitations both on Mars and on Earth (in the ancient past). Not sure about present time. If we have been detected then at least they would leave robotic probes around to monitor us. That is what I would do if I were an advanced race of people.

Never read Sitchen myself, however, that is one theory of what the "Greys" really are - arificially bioengineered probes...

samples of witness* testimony I've heard from Roswell recovered bodies inidcated that the skin felt/ looked manufactured, and while the interior was made of soft tissue and fluid, the eyes themselves were almost like camera lenses that seemed manufactured. I tend to think these beings were developed to survive significant lengths of flight/ no sex organs/ no digestive system but able to complete complex instr. / report back to creators what they find.

Probably why they crashed the ships so many times. Imperfection in design.

but seriously, that is a theory. The Greys may have been made in their creators' image....maybe not. Maybe made to look more like us to aid in establishing rapport.

It was only in recent history (last 100 to 150 years) that the recovered ancient texts recovered from around the world, most import ones found on the cuniform clay tablets in the middle east, have been decyphered by the few professionals. So few that are able to decypher and so many to go through. They are buried in their work. But the ones that have been interpreted show a very interesting early history for mankind. You have got to read Zacharia Sitchin and then you will get the picture. You probably already know about Eric Von Daniken. Zacharia is the rest of the story.

"marsanomalyresearch"
Oh, no....[face/palm]

"von Daniken"??? :shk:

"Sitchin"?

Off to the "gray area" with ya! (please)....

Sorry....the thread will eventually seek the proper level. I happen to think this particular forum is devoted to valid and scientific inquiries into space exploration, not the fantasies of those who are only out to sell incredible "stories" and "speculations" to the gullible --- for profit.

Hard to use map

Click on the map section you want, then click on "listing" of images for this area. This will give you a list of individual map files, sorted by MOC number and latitude/longitude. Find the one you want, click on it, and you'll get a couple download and display options.

I believe this is the section you want. If you go through the list you should be able to find images that are close to your target.

Here are a few likely candidates:
m0102824
m0305129
m0805562
m0805561

Again, these are raw images, so expect to spend some time visually locating features to orient yourself in each image.

I wounder if there is a better map I could use

Yes, google mars has a convenient user interface. But if you want higher resolution, you'll need to go to the raws.
