MOSCOW – Authorities in Russia are opening an animal cruelty probe into a weekend stunt on a beach in southern Russia in which a donkey parasailed high over the surf. Amateur video footage showed men attaching a parasail harness to the trembling mule. The English-language Kremlin news channel Russia Today reported that sunbathers were distressed at the sight of the flying donkey, which brayed in fear as it glided above the bay for half an hour.

Russia Today reported the donkey was shell-shocked but survived.

If convicted the employees could face two years in prison on

animal cruelty charges.

Stunned onlookers and beach goers watched as the mule glided

around attached to a parasail for 30 minutes above the beach.

OK. I will admit I laughed. But I know it was wrong. If it was done on something that could actually appreciate the gift of flight, such as a monkey or dolphin, maybe it would be OK, seeing as something that intelligent would have had fun, as opposed to this, which is basically like taking a 2d creature into the 3D world and expecting it not to panic in fear of the uncomprehendable

No its not funny - at all! Its cruel - at least the authorities realize that it is and I hope they do something about it. Poor guy, hope he will be alright after this ordeal.

I think it would've only been cruel if the donkey had been seriously injured.. And I think 2 years in prison would've been lenient for that type of incident if it had been done in the United States..

It's bad enough how disgusted I am that people did this to an animal ......... but MORE SO disgusted with people that think it was funny.

Well, I am semi-intelligent, and I can assure you I would not enjoy parasailing.

Not everyone likes heights and responds favorably to adrenaline.

Personally, I hope they get at least a little jail time for this.

Come on, lighten up. The donkey was ok. He was probably scared for the first few moments and then he settled down and enjoyed the ride. How many donkeys get a chance to fly? He has one heck of a story to tell when he gets back to the barn. His friends will never believe him.

Your right, I should lighten up (actually I usually am).

Until someone delibertly risks anothers life! The article said 30 minutes of braying, it spoke of the donkey trembling. So I guess luck was on the donkeys side after all, he didn't drown!

People that take this in lighthearted manner more than likely have no clue what donkey braying is, nor a rat bruxing, nor a dog/cat in hackles, etc.

What will most likely happen is the other donkeys will call him names...I bet they won't let him play in any donkey games
