Why do they even bother with what goes on in the western world? They condemn everything we do.

Why do we interfere with them?

Maybe if the west left them alone, they would leave the west alone, just a thought.

Oh is that really all we need to stop? How about...

Stop demonizing Muslims
Stop colonizing their countries
Stop doing things like drawing their prophet to insult them
Stop falling for the propaganda about terrorists

1.Muslims demonize themselves.
2.How about we start with the U.S. and give the land
back to the native americans.
3.How about growing a backbone? How many times do
people insult Jesus/Yeshua?
4.We will stop falling for their propaganda when they
stop dropping bombs, suicide belts and flying planes
into buildings!

I will tell you something that may help your consideration.

I believe EVERY child is intelligent, regardless of American, Arabian or African descend. It is only OPPORTUNITIES that makes them different.

We judged the arabs on our western standards, we who have the opportunities and freedom achieved by our western forefathers who broke the domination of Rome and the Monarchies and then founded and understood what freedom entails.

Unfortunately for the ME ruled by the Ottoman Turks for centuries till 1911, they NEVER had a chance, and had been kept stupid for centuries. It is their way of life, pass down from years of subjugation. It will take them time to match the spectacular growth as well as our excesses or the wisdom to avoid such mistakes, but in the meantime, they are indeed backward.

Times are changing as more arab children are given opportunities, but meanwhile, we have to step back and not go for tit for tat, but to comprehend where they are truly comming from before we make judgements.

Make a wrong choice and we will be at war forever. Make the right one and we will excel as a species never seen before in the universe. We have so much to offer to each other for we share the same aspirations and goals. Together as one, we will achieve more.

Ignorant schoolyard brawls will only set back our evolution, as is the way wanted by TPTB to keep us enslaved. Please do consider my post....may we still have time..

Maybe if the west stopped bombing women and children in Pakistan, the Pakistani's might not be so quick to involve themselves with what happens in the west. Maybe they strike back in any small way they can.

So you believe it's perfectly fine to ridicule another's beliefs? To make a joke out of something they find sacred because YOU believe it's ridiculous? Interesting.

[edit on 7/20/2010 by ~Lucidity]

This happens all the time to christians!People ridicule the Bible and
take God's name in vain. Christians are beaten, beheaded and tortured
for their beliefs.

Hold on there.....I am agreeing with ~lucidity's first post...

It was a pretty hateful and ignorant thing for them (or whoever really did it...I didn't really follow the whole story) to do, but the death penalty sounds a bit extreme, though asking for it does make a point. Good luck to them.

Everybody has a really big opinion about their freedom and how they want to exercise it but I never hear anybody about the obligations that come with it.

Back to basics: I think everybody can agree that you shouldn't treat people in a manner that you wouldn't want to be treated yourself. From this agreement we can give everybody the right to express his or her opinion. But when people start to use their right to insult other people it really shouldn't be surprising that this can backfire.

Q: Why insult somebody with a cartoon??
A: Because we can!! We have freedom of speech.

Q: Why threaten to kill somebody over a cartoon??
A: Because we can!! We have freedom of speech.

The fact that there are extremists that actually put this into practice only confirms that every group, every origination, every religion has it's share of people who are always ready to go that extra mile (read: nutjobs).

But because there are extremists that actually put into practice what they say means the ones who started the insults get off the hook??

What a weird reality you reside in.....

Peace

Just to bring up a point, you don't have to be insulting in the way you draw a picture of Muhummad, just drawing a picture of him (even if you consider it to be flattering) is an insult to Islam!

The difference is this...You insult Jesus/Yeshua,
you can be forgiven of it.
You insult the muslim prophet, you will be killed.

This has nothing to do with the women and children, or a war at all. It is purely religious and you know it. The fact that the court has ordered anything based on a cartoon is ridiculous in itself. To condemn a non-practicing person based on your own belief system is ridiculous as well. That is like me saying you are blasphemous when in fact you can't be because you don't believe in my religion.

Am I the only one that's more shocked that the founders of Facebook are from Pakistan?

No one else thinks that's fishy?

I don't think it's cool to belittle Muslims because of things like what you're suggesting.

If you look back a mere 50 years in US history. We were doing more or less the exact same thing, disguised behind "white civilization". We thought we were civilized.

Now you look back, and we can say just 50 years ago we were still uncivilized. America even had the advantage over the East thanks to the industrial revolution.

We have had so many shortcuts afforded us, and yet we are only a few decades more socially advanced.

The things we find disgusting in them, are traits which we also share as a society.

I say give them breathing room and time. Their society needs time to adapt to an entirely different way of thinking. When you force it on them, you only create more issues.

So I just find statements like yours to be judgmental, ignoring simple truths.

Funny that is. Why in the world would the Pakistan court be issuing orders regarding these people anyway?

OK...here's the deal. I'm not saying that the behavior is acceptable. I'm not saying I agree with it. All I'm saying is that it's unrealistic to think that everyone is going to stop insulting everyone else's religion. It's part of human nature. Everyone wants to be right all the time. Obviously that isn't going to happen.
This situation is ridiculous. There is no reason for Pakistan to try to sentence these guys to death.
The reason for freedom of speech and freedom of religion in the US is so this exact thing won't happen here. This type of law is what is being prevented by having those two freedoms. I mean if that were the case here, than there would be no arguments about prayer in school...it would be a part of life, and if you were born to Christian parents and decided you didn't want to be Christian, than you could be sentenced to death as well.
Bottom line, just like in elementary school, we all have to learn to ignore the things we feel are insulting. There is no justification to try and have these guys killed over a page that they had no particpation in, other than the fact that they own the website. A web page that they ended up shutting down after they realized there was an issue.
Even if I felt this was a justifiable punishment, these guys wouldn't be the ones they should be trying to prosecute anyways. Shouldn't they go after the actual creator of the page itself? Or what about all of the people who participated in the drawings and statements that were posted there? I guess they should all die, right?

So you agree that it is a crime punishable by death?

I have never drawn a picture of him. Should an atheist should be condemned to death for doing so?

The Koran I am not familiar with. Nor Am I familiar with the bible or any other religious book. I am merely talking about the responsibility that comes with having the right to express your opinion!!!

This is not about religion, no matter how much you would like it to be. It is about interaction with other people. If, at any point in time, you feel it is right to insult somebody for no reason, you clearly do not deserve the freedom that you have been given.

Peace
