Government says leak detected "a distance from" oil well

(CNN) -- The federal government's oil spill response director says testing has revealed that there is a "detected seep a distance from the well" and has ordered BP to quickly notify the government if other leaks are found.
"When seeps are detected, you are directed to marshal resources, quickly investigate, and report findings to the government in no more than four hours," retired Adm. Thad Allen said in a letter to BP Chief Managing Director Bob Dudley. "I direct you to provide me a written procedure for opening the choke valve as quickly as possible without damaging the well should hydrocarbon seepage near the well head be confirmed."

I think people have been speculating this was the case. At least there is an official source now confirming that which many thought, without the official source.

I said in a post the other day that all we hear in Australia is the cap is on & (depending on pressure) all is OK & the problem is fixed.

I can now report that the midday news on Aust. ABC has made mention of leaks other than from/near the BOP. It was only a brief mention, but its a start.

I seriously doubt the commercial stations will have it on their tabloid news though, I mean how can this be anywhere near as important as lady gaga's new hair style ??? Its not as if all that plastic she wears has anything to do with oil I mean its not made from oil products, oh wait, it is, maybe she is important to the oil story.
