Well when you hear some truth from the MSM, especially pro-Obama MSM like MSNBC, you know it's bad.

But eh, let's continue to force clean up workers to wear no protective gear because it's bad press for BP eh!

I have heard a lot of the workers have signed some kind of conract or agreement stating they coudnt sue BP or talk about the illness...I could be wrong. I just hope BP will cover any medical costs these people have and they start allowing the correct protective gear to be worn by workers. This deadly combination of Corexit and crude oil is obviously deadly and I dont understand why it is still being used in such large amounts everyday!

They need Mike Papantonio, there is no other publicly known lawyer who is more hard-core about this BP mess than him. He is defending a lot of people on the gulf.

These workers should be FORCED to wear respirator's, not have to petition for them.

BP clearly has no conscience, their more concerned over profits and public image than they are over wildlife, the ocean, and now human life.

When are company's going to stop hiding behind paperwork and discreet employee contracts, they need to be held accountable, not just financialy but lawfully.

If even ONE worker dies from their policies or lack thereof the decision makers should be charged with manslaughter or at least criminal negligence.

We have evolved into a world where simply signing a contract, or writing a check is seen as solving problems, where dead workers are nothing more than extra paperwork.

When will heads freakin roll !!!!!!!

Ehhhh lawyer this lawyer that.
If I had real reason to think that I was intentionally exposed and death was imminent or one of my families death was imminent i would need no lawyers.
I would spend the last bits of cash I had and find the tallest building owned by said company and do what a Palestenian man does when his family is taken away.
Corporations understand capital losses and nothing else.
But as I know not to work for an uncaring master and my kids understand the way I feel, it is safe to assume I am a safe individual.

Yeah those guys in Palestine strap on vests, I guess they don't have the same technology as we do here.
I would use a couple of Radio Flyers!
Live like a cowboy, die like one too.

Great find Vitchilo... This serves as just another piece of evidence that BP is full of it. Who knows what else they don't tell us.

and to think that over 81 days since this started, they could have done extensive testing on those chemicals used on the oil, but instead they will toss it in the water and let wishful thinking take its course.

I don't know the specifics about US labour laws so this might be off base, but here in Canada there are mandatory HAACP and WHIMIS programs to protect both employer and employee.

In many industries you cannot start working until certified in writting that you have received training provided by a government registered training person. This training is required just to enter the building, regardless of whether you will ever come in contact based on your job.

These programs detail what information must be provided to an employee about any substance they will be working with along with the mandatory equipment to be used. Every chemical must include a registered MSDS (material safety data sheet) that describes up to 9 categories of information ranging from chemical properties to medical treatments.

(I know from one previous employer that you weren't even allowed into the chemical room without a respirator/mask at least in hand in case of fumes)

Does the US not have this system too? I know that here I can be charged if I get hurt using a product improperly and lose all rights to sue an employer over the incident.

I have two problems with this thread. The title that the OP has chosen to give this thread is MSNBC reports that Corexit is killing clean up workers. At no point in the video does anybody say that anything is killing relief workers. In fact, they don't really even say that relief workers are getting sick. One could imply that the relief workers are, or will be ill as a result of their work but it is never actually stated that they ARE becoming ill or dying. What is said is that some relief workers have a relatively high concentration of a toxic substance in their bodies. That's the only information that the video clip gives me. The title of this entire thread is misleading.

The second problem that I have with this thread is the use of Kieth Olberman as a legitimate source.....let's not even open that can of worms right now.

You are absolutely correct about that. The point is, replying with violence would put us on the same board as Corporations are.

Not starring or flagging just because of this line. Can't people just talk about the subject without interjecting the anti-Obama rhetoric into every damn thing I read these days? It's as bad as Yahoo...

Does anyone else get the feeling that TPTB that once ruled this world so tightly and in unison have now split up and divided in to groups and playing one off against each other to the public?

I have had this hunch now for about 12 months that TPTB are fighting amongst themselves probably over 'power' as it sure aint # 'money' they have enough of that already!!

In regards to the OT I wanted to say that I can't believe that a group of people can treat others in such a way that is completely barbaric! I mean could you think about not supplying respirators to save money and to throw away peoples lives at a drop of a hat? A human life is priceless yet these people believe they can say and do anything at the expense of their workers (hu-man beings) these people are no different than terrorists and should be arrested and treated as such.

This is terrorism on our #ing doorstep and nothing is being done to stop them.

Can' sue. Workers Compensation is the exclusive remedy against an employer. It would not prevent a products liability case against the maker of Corexit but BP's Comp carrier (insurance company) takes the employer's hit.

Up to the limit of liability

My brother went down to apply for one of those clean up jobs. Thankfully for my brother and for me (selfish on my part), the line was too long and he did not get the job. When I heard he was going down there, I told him and my father it was a bad idea. I told them that it was toxic, that it will make him sick and it could kill him. There was a bit of silence, but then a change of subject.

In the last month, people have shrugged off my warnings. People have changed the subject. People have called me paranoid.

I guess it takes hearing it from the MSM for them to believe that something is very very wrong with the current state of affairs down there. The sheep do not see the wolf in the trees as long as the sheepdog can be seen on the cliff.

It is my hope that more people actually start paying attention to this travesty now that Keith-O has said it was bad. Sadly, this will probably all be some sort of new revelation that no one has heard anything about now that the MSM is reporting on it.
