I'm trying to figure out when exactly did children get more rights then parents,
...minors dont have more rights than their parents, quite the contrary... they dont have the right to vote, enter into a contract, etc... when it
comes to protection from those who have harmed them, minors have a right to petition the court for intervention... if parents dont want to be taken to
court by their kids, they shouldnt abuse them - simple...

this horrible story of a mother being jail, a kid with a chip on his shoulder, and the law deciding, just doesn't make sense.
...she's the one at fault - not him...

The kid didn't live their, 17 yrs old, is old enough for him to either just not visit his mother, to avoid problems,
...you're blaming the kid for his mother's inability to control herself... maybe he visited her home because he wanted to continue to try to have a
relationship with her... children have the tendency to want a relationship with their parents - even those who grew up under far worse hostilities
than this boy...

If she was able to access his FB then something is odd there.
...he had used her computer... a 10yr old thats moderately computer literate can accomplish what this woman did, although a 10yr old would probably be
smarter about it...

There was a time not so long ago, that no matter what your parent was like, they were your parents, and that was the bottom line.
...abused children had no alternatives except to shut-up and suck-it-up or run away - that was a preferable era to you?...

Now parents are being categorized by what the child feels is agreeable to him/her.
...some parents are lousy humans who enjoy making their kids suffer - and - there are some parents who dont intend to hurt their kids but are too

You cant raise your kids with the fear that whatever you do can get you in trouble, by a simple phone call to the police, and a FB account.
...abusive parents should fear getting into trouble...

Because this has gone this far, they can never take this back or properly mend this relationship.
...per the news articles - she admitted to cussing in front of and to her son, admitted she made up lies to post online when she was pretending to be
him posting online, admitted she's been mentally unstable AND she threw him away when he was 11yrs old... the judge ordered her into anger management
class and parenting skills class, said he would forego the jail time if she attended the classes... sounds like a fair judge to me...
...as for your prediction of their future - no one knows what lays ahead for this mother and her son... their relationship might possibly be mended
down the road - if she changes and he hasnt been too badly damaged... he might turn out to be an awesome man in spite of his mother's lousy parenting
skills...
