Agree with you and I was going to do a full quote and cut as you did but there is no point as I agree with you and what you say (plus it is 1 am) and I am glad someone pulled me up as I most certainly do not have the answers but to try and find it seems to beat shooting these people on sight is all I am saying.

Your post is exactly what I was hoping for in that thinking about the problem would tend to bring the solution.

Starred!

You seem a little biased (native Russian speaker I get it), perhaps you should chill out and discuss it? There is no need to get defensive about it when I attack the crime I am not attacking the country just the crime.

If a man squeezes the trigger you can be sure it is the man’s fault who squeezed that trigger and if you do not like it then that is not my problem that is your problem.

Pulling the trigger and following orders does not mean he never had a choice, we always have a choice... So take come of that ice cream and chill out yourself

1st if these pirates would put as much effort into fixing their country, as they do tring to high jack ships, they might have a country that is worth a damn. insted they go the lawless route and try to hold up people and get some thing at the point of a gun. i dont know about everybody else but i enjoy seeing a thug get thumbed on, when some one gets hit enough they will stop tring to fight or get dead its that simple.

how long as has somilia had a failed govt, i know at least 20+yrs, remember "black hawk down", back when the UN ( and i know they were about useless) had all the peace keepers there. and how we the US went to take one of the war lords down. and they shot down 2 of our choppers, when they went running through the streets with my country's solders, stripped and dead on their shoulders. they are still at the same place, have not moved from that spot. no sir thugs deserve no mercy.

Pirates,... Arrgg,..
Ya know,.. the people running that show could be real heros if their intensions were actually for the well being of the poor..
But I am sure as anyone , greed is the root of their work.
It is unfortunate but it is the recent way of this earth.
Everyday I pray for a reset
I hope it is soon...

I'm not defending the country, actually. I am American anyhow. I can't say I care much for Russia or its govt. You just seem to set the moral plank incredibly high for a conscript soldier who probably always thought that piracy on high seas is bad bad bad.

Pulling the trigger and following orders does not mean he never had a choice, we always have a choice...

No seriously, you are trying to say that a 20 yo soldier had a choice to become an ambassador of peace. That's asking way too much from a person who actually did put his @ss on the line to stop criminals.

.

The ignorance on this thread is appalling.
For one, those people were NOT somali, they are more than likely
Lebanese.
The Russian is basically: "what"- "how many ?"-"just one second"-
and such (nothing of significance), Then you hear > "what should we do with them ?", "what do you think ", (fades), "all of them ??", (laughter),
(ship is ignited), "beautiful" (end)
Defiantly a case for Amnesty-International.

Anyways, would you guys even know what a
somali navy looks like ? Exactly ! !
Meanwhile just google the toxins, drums of nuclear waste,
that is being dumped onto somali shores by the russians,
and israelis etc. (just appalling)
It's easy to demonize, while censoring the other side of
the whole issue.
Russia is notorious for poaching fish and crab stocks into
depletion. Give that a google too while you're at it, then . . .
tell me were have the Somalis continuously dumped
toxic waste ?
And with the lack of land in israel, I can only shudder to think
where all their toxic waste ends up.
Education is a good thing. Please do a little research before
spouting off.

I didn't know having pollution on your shores allows you to attack other nations fishing vessels.

What surprises me is that we are all quick to condemn, and defend, citizens of other countries, and say why don't they take care of where they live, and , they got what they deserved.

Even if it happened here, and I'm sure it has at some point. WE don't fight for ourselves, its the same as watching a boxing match, you can call the punches from your t.v, but you would never go in the ring.

We sure love to watch videos of death, destruction, and mayhem. But ask an American about his/her rights, and what they are doing about their country with their corrupt government, and mistreatment of their people, and intolerance, and I bet this debate would have been over already.

Peace to you...

Actually I was under the impression that they had the option to stay with the burning boat or swim, no provisions.
These men should be put down like rabid animals, they prey on the weak and no amount of therapy can help that because they live in one of the armpits of the world.
Now 1 on 1 on the street I can beat the heck out of anyone with words, and in my prime I could best at least 75% of them.
Verbal judo is a real thing and it works both ways passive and aggressive.
You are right in what you say about baggage later on but I guess if anyone had to put these guys down there would be none better than a soldier.
The fact that anyone is killed is a tragedy at best and even worse on the worse end. but it does happen and I would rather see gun toting thugs die than unarmed old people.
But yes there is wisdom in your words.

Umm occupations NEVER work. I almost never say never but, I truly cannot think of a working occupation.
To fix that area of the world is way beyond my primate brain.
I wish there was a way to do it though.

Would you like it if foreign governments illegally dumped toxic waste, and illegally poached the fish in your nations water? Wouldn't think so. You people need to research the background to these Somali Pirates, and understand why they are taking arms..

Ummm actually that was the United States that hit the USS Cole.
Anytime Al Quaeda hits a target just replace the words Al Quaeda with USA.
Did you not hear cheney said Al really does'nt exist?

Shall we call this a UN failure then?
It just gives me one more reason to oppose the NWO.
Good thing I live here in the good old USofA upon death i have a right to take at least 1 idiot with me.
I hope he will be the bigger of us 2 idiots.

Oh but there is a lot more to it than you describe. They discuss, for example, that the AKs they found onboard were not Soviet made but knock-offs from somewhere else. They cuss a lot. They try to get a count of the weapons and to get a good shot of the arsenal. They try to understand how many wounded there are (one). There is nothing in the dialog that hints that they dispatched the pirates. I think when the ship blows they remark that pirates should be scared, "all pirates?". If you heard otherwise, please send a timestamp, I'll give it another listen.

When I call a bunch of armed bandits, a bunch of armed bandits, in no way am I demonizing them -- just stating a plain obvious fact. Would you like me to say that I saw a bunch of ballerinas in this video?

Russia is notorious for poaching fish and crab stocks into
depletion.

...and therefore, upon meeting armed pirates on high seas, Russians should treat them with some choice chilled vodka and caviar? Yummy. Sorry but it ain't happening.

You tree huggers should all go and practice the art of being a hostage. It must be an enriching and spiritual experience.

If you call demanding restitution by the only defensive means
available (ransom) as "attacking" so be it.
If you do not want to pay the toll then stay in international waters !
To the Somalis it is defensive preservation.
In how many instances have Somalis drowned russians, israelis,
brits and ecologically did harm by burning and dumping ships ?
Please do tell.
