For those who don't know, both of these new shows are about a community that seems to be a haven of sorts for all kinds of supernatural creatures.

In The Gates, it's kind of like True Blood meets Desperate Housewives... A regular cop takes over for the killed former chief of police, for the gated community, and tries to puzzle out what's going on with his different neighbors.

In Haven, an FBI agent comes to the town to track an escaped con, but quickly learns about at least two different residents with powers (telekinesis and another with the ability to control the weather).

Both series seem poised to be able to take the torch passed by Lost and Heroes for mythology-based dramas with secrets, and both are pretty interesting.

I started watching "The Gates" and it looks really promising. I saw the first episode of "Haven" and it doesn't seem to be anything special but I will give it another chance.

I still have to watch the second episode of Haven, but on the Gates, things are heating up, with the main vamp revealing himself to the chief....

Yeah that surprised me, I really thought they would drag it out and keep him oblivious through the entire season. I'm glad they are moving things along.

Both shows are clicking along well, though Haven has more interest just a bit more...still have a couple of Gates episodes to catch...

Believe me, I've been watching Haven.

I'm still a fan of both shows...

HAVEN - While still a "freak of the week" format, the lead is hot (as seen above), but also has a good character, and good presence to carry a show. And, the situations are fairly unique weird happenings we haven't seen on other shows like it, so that's good. (though they are bound to repeat something from Twilight Zone, X-Files, etc.)....

THE GATES - Amazing ANYONE still feels safe here, with nearly multiple murders occurring every week it seems. Still, this Desperate Housewives meets True Blood idea is still interesting. The chief isn't as in the dark anymore, but he still knows of only two of the Gates' many monster types (werewolves and vamps).... He still doesn't know about the witches or Succubus, or anything else that may be there...

Yeah, Haven still has my attention.

I'm hoping they'll develop the "who is Audrey's Mom" plot a little further, though. So far the main focus has been on the weekly weirdness, which has been entertaining, but I'm afraid it might wear a little thin eventually without support from the subplot.

Still a great show, thus far.

So I got caught up on The Gates. Doing vampires vs werewolves AGAIN seems really unnecessary. I like that things are really moving along instead of being dragged out (other than the charlie-succubus thing). I really don't understand the reasoning behind bringing in a normal guy as sheriff who is powerless to do anything in the town.

I guess the town leader thought a human would make a good impartial advocate.
The good witch/bad witch angle seems to be heating up too though.

Seems that kind of town would kind of self implode though, really....

(Gates) Interesting last couple of episodes....basically brought people out of the dark, and into knowing what's going on. Interesting cliffhanger too, though I think maybe they tied up too many loose ends in neat little bows. Still...not sure what the bad witch was thinking....what did she THINK was going to happen when making a poison for an entire race....duh..

(Haven) Very cool episode with the Chameleon thing/mystery party on the island kind of deal. I thought I had it figured out, but the clue was a red herring. Nice surprise. Found out the full name of the mysterious Lucy too.

Yeah I thought the Gates season finale was handled pretty well. It has hooked me in, wondering what will happen in the next season. Who will lead the community now? What kind of backlash will there be for all of the main characters?

My guess is that they'll kind of form a committee, as a way to keep the peace. I think the death of the former leader will help galvanize this.

The real unanswered question is what happened with Charlie? He's obviously gained some kind of power, but is he now subservient to the witch? We'll just have to see I suppose.

Any way you slice it, the vamps cannot let the witch live....she's too big a threat.

Havens fine,a bit bad acting and some holes in the plot. But I like it,watchable. Hope it gets better later on though!
The Gates's fine too!I like it a bit better, with a better plot and a bit better acting it should evolve into a better show haha. I just saw last episode
is it coming back for a second season?

I've looked, but I didn't see anything definite on renewal for The Gates. Ratings were low (but not low enough to bode instant cancel), but it's a summer replacement show....so hard to tell. It's a good sign they showed the whole season, but I don't see anything confirming it either way.

Just a heads up for anyone who watched these shows. The Gates has been canceled and will not be returning. Haven has been renewed by Syfy for a season 2.

Yeah, I kind of figured the Gates was heading for the coffin. Thanks for the info.
Good to hear about Haven though. Seems like forever since it's been on though...
