There also seems to be an unfulfilled Hopi prophecy of a spacestation crashing to earth as well, and I don't think they meant Skylab...

Okay, I'm just thinking out aloud here, but I have often considered the solar wind to be a catalyst in mitigating some earthquakes and extra volcanic activity, equally so, CMEs, as these will hit the earth and provide a jolt to the whole system. Afterall, we are talking about a mass of heat and electrically-charged particles hitting the earth at a higher speed than the solar wind.

I suppose the earth and its magnetic field would normally assimilate the shock wave like a fist punching a balloon, that is the magnetic field warps and distorts in absorbing the punch, but a lot of the plasma finds its way into the upper and lower atmospheres. The earth then has to assimilate all the extra heat by spreading it around via the weather systems and the oceans. We have to bear in mind that the motions of the seas and oceans, and air currents all transmit energies upon the solid mass of the earth, placing extreme pressures upon fault lines. Any excess energies supplied from the sun in the form of solar flares and CMEs will (I contend) add extra pressure upon said fault lines, perhaps causing one or two to slip and fail?

An earliar post touched on this same theory, but not as descriptive, I agree that magnetic anomalies might cause strange things, even lava flow seems to follow it as well. Thanks for the post star for you as well.

Thank you for including the link, especially when it hints at a connection. While not technically proven true, there do seem to be more large earthquakes while there are active sunspots facing us. At least from what I have been seeing.

A quick question if I may?

How did the Hopi predict that a space station would crash?

And, why not skylab?

What I find interesting is the appearance of sun spot 1088, and when you look at the images you can see a alignment, so does that mean that our chances of being hit by a CME as doubled now as the sun spots continue on their path to align with earth?

It looks like we will soon find out.

Peace

What time scale are we talking here? Has anyone heard of anything happening that could be caused by the sun spot as yet?

"And this is the Ninth and Last Sign: You will hear of a dwelling-place in the heavens, above the earth, that shall fall with a great crash. It will appear as a blue star. Very soon after this, the ceremonies of my people will cease"

Skylab did not appear as a blue star, to my recollection.

I read somewhere that a previous sun spot was what caused the Haiti quake? Is this true or probable? If so and its a big if so, then would it be possible to determine the location of a possible effect here on earth? Stupid question i know, but someone has to ask.
Also have you any links regarding the sunspot thats predicted?
Many thanks

First we have to be careful not to assume that sunspots cause quakes, they do not, as we can get earthquakes without them. However it is a theory of many that they are related. I believe that they aggitate the lava flow somehow, and may even have more to do with magnetics. I have noticed that stronger quakes seem to appear after a CME but not always. Same with a few eruptions as well.

We really have no way to pinpoint the exact location as the Earth is magnetised as well.

Spaceweather.com says that A solar wind stream flowing from the indicated coronal hole should hit Earth's magnetic field on July 13th or 14th.

If both spots erupt with an M class flare at the same time. I would most certainly think so, so lets hope that doesn't happen.

My source is also showing that the solar wind speed has picked up a little as well

Source

The freaky part of all this is that sunspot 1087 had all but died out, and then all of the sudden erupts a flare on the 9th (away from the earth) and rotated into our view much larger than before..

Thanks for your post.

I have no idea and I try to keep an open mind.

I am sure that there is many on here what will share there opinion with you regarding that question.

Time will tell :-)

Either way going to be intresting the next few days regarding these sun spots.

Usually I like to have 3 main sites open at all times, this one, SolarCycle24, and RSOE-EDIS page which I just perused.

RSOE-EDIS

RSOE reported a 6.2 earthquake in Chile as well as three 4+ earthquakes, and we haven't even felt the effects of the B class flares from sunspot 1087 yet.

Just a thought.

Hmmm... what I call my Puerto Rico bell is ringing (i.e. the "locked" plate that Puerto Rico sits on is rocking) - I don't know why but I've been really drawn to that plate's activity in the days immediately after and before large quakes.. I feel there is a large event brewing based on recent P.Rico activity.

Another interesting fact about Puerto Rico - and perhaps something relevant to solar or other forces on the earth - is this:

The Puerto Rico Trench is also associated with the most negative gravity anomaly on earth, -380 milliGal, which indicates the presence of an active downward force.

I may be totally off track, I don't usually get involved in solar threads as I know nothing, but you never know what's relevant
