Thats ok

Yes, that is right. The top of the cumulonimbus (technical name we use for thunderstorm clouds) is causing the shadow, which is obscuring yout view of the cloud behind it

Ok, about a year ago, my son went out to feed the dogs. It was already dark and my house is elevated.
I heard my son screaming wow. He came running in telling us that he saw something "falling" through the clouds. We went on the stoep to see.
The clouds were very far off and covered the sky. To our left there was a clear cut through them, and a very big one if you take the distance of the clouds. So maybe something went through the clouds before you saw it.

something that large? Someone would have had to have seen it. Or it could have been cloaked. Either way It was just really cool to see something like that.

Thats a different phenomena to this one. Usually that results when a plane flies through a uniform cloud layer leaving a sort of trail through the cloud

No airoplane dives at a near 30 degree angle through the clouds. It was a dark object that went through, no lights! I've never even seen an airoplane using that area as a flightpath.

Errrr...whatever.....I was merely explaining what caused it. If you think it was a UFO then thats fine, Im not arguing about that with you because we are already off topic

You have to remember that the clouds move very fast, and if something moved through them it would push the clouds away faster. I am no expert. I just know what we saw after my sun saw the object go through it. The gap grew in size very quickly.

It could have been space junk for all I know and yes it could have been something more interesting. I was just stating that it was not an aircraft. We do not have spy plains or even proper fighter planes in this country. The airport is about 15km away from us, so I see airoplanes every day. That is why I said there's no flightpath. I was just explaining what could have made the cut through the clouds.

Lol, I wish there was an edit button! I meant my son not sun and I meant planes not plains! Sorry, it's crap typing on the cellphone!

thats interesting. Im going to research it further tonight when i get a chance. is this what they call the hole punch theory? When i type it in on google i get a bunch of holes in the clouds pictures.

Sort of

There are two kinds of hole punch clouds

1. Occurs when an aircraft passes through a layer of cloud, or travels at the same level as a cloud layer, causing the cloud to disperse, creating a kind of track through it

2. Occurs when cirrus cloud falls as virga (precipitation not reaching the ground) through a lower cloud layer of either cirrocumulus or altostratus or altocumulus, creating a hole like effect.

In the second kind, you can actually see the cirrus falling through it, in the middle of the hole....hope my cloud terminology hasnt confused you, lol
