Fair enough, but do you agree that "many" people have said they "talk to (a) god?"

Many disorders involve audio hallucinations, several of those disorders are "not dangerous" (IE They aren't going to snap and kill for their god.)

As for "fear", he has done the Lords work then. You are afraid.

Although most German Nazis were Pagans, they were also Socalists. The only difference between National Socalism and Communism is that Communists think internationally, and National Socalists are nationalists. According to the Socalists philosophy, religion is to be replaced by the state.

So you are confused and wrong?

Nazis were atheists? Then they were pagans. Now they are socialist so they must have been atheist again? How can the be all 3 as a result of each other?

Socialism has nothing to do with religion. You are confusing communism with socialism

Socialism, as a party, bases itself upon its knowledge of facts, of economic truths, and leaves the building up of religious ideals or faiths to the outside public, or to its individual members if they so will. It is neither Freethinker nor Christian, Turk nor Jew, Buddhist nor Idolator, Mahommedan nor Parsee – it is only human.

I guess I need to preface this by saying I voted to let gay people be married here in Missouri, but I stand by my previous post about the cowardice of the protesters in California who only picked easy targets in the churches they disrupted. They didn't go near churches in minority communities or mosques.

What protesters are you talking about? There was an atheist protest over gay marriage? Have any links?

I don't have a problem with how people believe or not believe.

You just think that atheists are wrong and annoying, got that!

It is the athiests who are constantly suing to take the Pledge of Allegiance out of schools,

What about the Christians that PUT IT IN THERE?

to take crosses off military cemeteries,

Show me specifically what you mean.

to take "So help me God" out of the Presidental oath, and so on.

Why should it be in there? Is that so we can only have Christian presidents? Do you really believe a president that starts wars is giving much thought to what any god thinks of his oath anyway?

Should we have him walk around a ladder, smash a wine glass, and toss salt over his shoulder too?

As for history. You talk about how the Catholic Church turned a blind eye to Hitler (true). They also helped Nazis escape to South America. The Crusades, dark ages, ect. Also, most terrorism, whether the IRA or Al-Qaeda is religious based. I think that explains why religion should be taught in schools, and that religion is a very significant part of history.

What did you say your drink of choice was again?

Let's not also forget that the anti-slavery movement in America was religious based, and that religious groups like AA and The Salvation Army, and others do most of the charity work world wide.

Yeah, all Christians get a free pass for that.

As for testicular fortitude, I post my photo and location, do you?

How does that make you brave again? Are you inviting me over? Is it a challenge? I would happily give you my information so you could come and brag about your testicles but I am not going to post anything here for people like Randy to abuse. We already know what he does with the U2U system. So, seriously. What are you trying to say here?

Again, Socalism is very athiest, at least that's what the Communist Manifesto says.

Socialism is much more related to Christianity in philosophy though.

I'm not Catholic and will agree what they did to the children was horrible. If it was up to me, molesters would be given the death penality.

No, Catholics did not "do anything" to children. Catholic priests "did something" to them. It's important to be specific.

If Christians are so bad, why do they run most charities, and why can't I think of one athiest charity?
[edit on 14-7-2010 by MCAinSTL]

Well Atheism is not a defined group of people. We aren't a religious organization that can mobilize a charity for label as "atheist run."
There are, though, plenty of secular (nonreligious) founded charities. Probably more so then religious run charities. As an example:
-Fellowship of Free Thought
-The American Red Cross
-Doctors without Borders
-Amnesty International
-The SEED Foundation
-The Frontiers Foundation
-Bill and Melinda Gates foundation
-SHARE
-KIVA
-Project Peanut Butter

Just to name a few.

In addition to that you have Warren Buffet, a rather vocal atheist who actually produced the largest charitable donation in American History.

I'm not all that religious, but an evangelical Christian and athiest are equally annoying.

Communism and Socalism are the same thing. In the 80's I was a member of the Young Socalist Alliance. I'm now a Libertarian.

My drink of choice is cognac. I don't like cheap liquor.

As God can mean anything to anyone, what's the big deal if it's in an oath or pledge? It would be just as f'ed up for some religion to sue to have their way as it is for the athiests to do so.

The cemetery in California comes to mind, but there are others.

Although I had family fight in WWII for America, an equal part of my family fought for Germany.

I believe he is saying that his god would not ask him to murder, so he would not murder for his god.

It's double-speak though. He is saying it because he knows killing in the name of god is not murder, thus justified. He's hiding behind vague wording.

The commandments indicate that "Thou shalt not kill is = thou shalt not murder."

The commandments clarify that killing for god and for his commandments and for defense is not murder. Justified killing. He is using that to add a plausible deniability. He isn't lieing, he will not murder for god, and god would not ask for it. But god does ask for people to die, a lot. Just open up Deuteronomy.

Yeah, all Christians get a free pass for that.

Christians together, form the largest combination of charity organization's in the world. Were it not for Christian charity the whole concept of a "hospital" might never have come into popular usage and been accepted as necessary in human society.

Christians started the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Mother Theresa saved many people. Jesus shined a laser on human suffering and responsibility of individuals not to permit it among their societies. Jesus the man, changed and positively impacted the generations that followed his life, more than any other man on Earth ever has or ever will.

Christians can not be labeled indiscriminately any more than you could say all Republicans are bad. They are not all worthy of your contempt.

You did name a few good charities. Can't say I trust Buffet and Gates, they have political agendas.

Where Socalism and religion come together is with "Social Justice". Although this is off topic, that's more about the collective vs the individual. Where one group is put against another.

After 9/11, I looked into different charities, the Salvation Army gives about 80% to the needy and 20% for operating expenses. That's about the best of the bunch. The rest religious and secular tend to keep more for themselves.

For the record, my most favorite charity is the NRA.

Speaking of nightmares...

No thanks!

I have read it, at least 3 times now. (For clarification
)

As for the double speak, I already told you he was doing the Lord's work. What better way to do the Lord's work, than work like the Lord?

(Or is the Bible not a big book of double speak?)

Just so you know where I stand on this, if I heard a voice in my head calling itself God saying to go and kill, I would like to think I'd have the good sense to run to the nearest mental health clinic and get treated.

Communism and Socalism are the same thing. In the 80's I was a member of the Young Socalist Alliance. I'm now a Libertarian.

If they were the same, they would be called the same thing.

Communism is a political system.
Socialism is an economic system.
Difference between Socialism and Communism

My drink of choice is cognac. I don't like cheap liquor.

Just curious how much drunk keyboarding exists in these types of threads.

As God can mean anything to anyone, what's the big deal if it's in an oath or pledge?

Then what does it matter if it is not said at all?

It would be just as f'ed up for some religion to sue to have their way as it is for the athiests to do so.

But it is ok for Christians to just KEEP THINGS THEIR WAY as many are now?

The cemetery in California comes to mind, but there are others.

Please, please. Do not bombard me with so many details all at once.

Although I had family fight in WWII for America, an equal part of my family fought for Germany.

My cat plays fetch.

Good job avoiding EACH AND EVERY SINGLE QUESTION I have asked you in this thread. You fit right in.

I don't drink the booze!

I just like talking about Jesus...flashback humor is awesome!

I appreciate you going to all that trouble. I understand what you are saying but "murder" was specifically defined and eliminated from the equation so that could not apply to the answer to the actual question. This is why I am still looking for that real answer because there is a distinction between killing and murdering and our friend seems to be skirting that.

No trouble at all! I find this entertaining, you see I am what you would call a loser.

Having no god to help me I must type sad attempts at humor in some thread on some site.

All hail Discordia!
All hail Eris!

I used to enjoy talking about religion. That was when I could find religious folks who could answer questions and not open with an attack. I appreciate the humor breaking up this thread.

Nay, the poster was wondering how much drinking was going on in general.

Also, you mentioned you drank cognac, if I remember correctly...

So really, YOU said you drank. Then YOU assumed he thought you meant drinking right now.

It's okay, you are doing some more of the Lord's work. Judging.

EDIT (To Add)
I need to shut up, I keep making people log out...

(Correlation does not equal causation, but in this case I would like for it to...please Mr. Christ?)

EDIT (To Inform)
4 of the stars came before I edited.
