Mars... Does this prove we have already been!?

Has anyone else noticed the logo in the upper left hand corner? It says "C-3," which makes me suspect "Channel 3" or "Canal 3" or some other European television station. Clearly, this video has been "tagged" by someone. I'm beginning to suspect viral marketing.

For all those people saying its a long trip to mars and what not. It would only take about 260 days! PEOPLE USE GOOGLE! ANSWERS ALL YOUR QUESTIONS!

Very interesting video...and I saw the flash of the chap as soon as I first watched it...I have taken the liberty of securing a copy of the video and will pass it through some of my kit see what else pops up...
My initial reaction is it does look legit...film has a certain quality to it that cannot be duplicated with digital equipment...and the fact this has been filmed of a projector further emphasis the quality of the original..
I am going to sit on the fence for know till I really have a good look at it...

as for me... it's a fake. i do believe we're on mars already, but... if this video would be real, it would be removed from youtube in a matter of minutes.

i've made some frame-by-frame analysis. when it comes to the astronaut, there's only one, i repeat, ONE, frame, in whole video, with him. it was posted already, so i won't do the same thing. as for me, he looks a little bit like christopher cassidy (use google images).

second thing is... if this video is real, then they were using exactly the same windows as they're using today on space station.

I could fake something like this with a few high quality prints of high resolution Mars photos, some decent models and a good HD video camera. It's well done and very effective, but not terribly difficult to fake and not even very expensive.

Well, it didn't take me long to confirm that this is a HOAX, and that the hoaxer has been very busy photoshopping images of Mars and NASA footage from the ISS!

The frame above is a picture of the ISS Destiny Laboratory Module:

Good catch - when I was watching it my suspician was that this is very very cleverly edited footage from the ISS.

Indeed it might not have needed huge editing - the views of the ground "martian" landscape could just be overviews of the Gobi dessert or antartica for my book.

Thanks a bunch for starting the thread. I am very unsure of what to think of this. One thing that really seems out of place to me is the quality of the film. Did cameras during that time have this kind of quality? It just doesn't look like something that would be made in the 70's.

I hope to learn more about it!

EDIT: Ah, people have posted while I was posting. The video now does look like it was just a photoshop attempt of adding in other images into the video. This does not seem like a very reliable video and I am thinking it is most probably fake.

If anyone has evidence against this, saying that it is genuine, I would love to hear it and change my opinion if necessary!

Be forewarned, some of the videos made by TFH are... disturbing if you're a spaceflight fan, especially if you've seen the destruction of Challenger or Columbia first hand.

The view through the portal at one point is a shot from MRO's HiRise of victoria crater:

You wouldn't actually see the crater in that portal as close as they show it in the video unless you're skimming the atmosphere, coming in on a martian entry.

I' m gonna go ahead and say that if this video proves anything, it's how easily all the moon footage could be faked. Even the shots of the far side
with huge constructs. So much tech under the bridge now you can't trust anything.

Just to throw a curve ball at this before it totaly goes away, i found a interesting article about russia cooperation with the U.S. for space exploration.

First-off, I really enjoyed the video. It speaks to my longing to live long enough to see people go to Mars.

That said, I saw enough evidence to indicate a hoax.

- The initial approach to Mars was along an equatorial trajectory. Successive shots showed us getting closer to the Tharsis volcanoes. Meanwhile, Vallis Marinaris rotated into sunlight and we flew directly over that (btw, it was good attention to detail to show the right amount of rotation, in the correct direction, during the hours of approach).
Then we saw clips of us flying over the polar regions of Mars. This doesn't fit the earlier shots of an equatorial orbital insertion trajectory. It takes a lot of delta-V to significantly change the plane of your orbit like that. It would close to double the overall fuel requirement. If they had wanted a polar orbit, they would have used a polar insertion trajectory.

- The crater we look straight down on from 1:41 to the end is unquestionably Victoria Crater. It is less than a kilometer across, so for it to fill the window as shown, our orbiter would have to be only a few clicks up - well within the martian atmosphere. Oh yes, and the wind-blown sand dunes inside the crater would have to have not changed in over 30 years.

I'd love for someone like Richard C Hogland to analyze it. I listen to Coast To Coast AM every day, so I'll post something if Richard discusses it on his next appearance on the show.

I've seen work like this done in Vuze software.

Basically what was done here is the window (from the space station) was made a green screen, images and video from unmanned Mars missions were cleverly edited in, in that window you could create any image you want, add effects that show movement, etc.

Nicely done.

Download pro video/creation/editing software get space station images and video and try it yourself. It can be done.

Heck, you can make one that will show we have been to Jupiter, its moons, Saturn, Titan or any other with high res images available.
