Pakistan Watches Google, Other Sites for Blasphemy

www.newsmax.com

An official says Pakistan will start monitoring seven major websites, including Google, for anti-Islamic content. It also is blocking at least 17 other, lesser-known sites it deems offensive to Muslims.

The decision comes in response to a recent order from a judge in Punjab province.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority spokesman Khurram Mehran said Friday that the sites to be monitored include Yahoo, Google, MSN, Hotmail, YouTube, Amazon and Bing.

Hmm I for one think that the internet should be freely available. I mean this is almost like a dictatorship blocking material that may cause people to question the establishment.

Im not sure if this is the first censorship that Pakistan is doing in regards to internet access, or If they have been doing this for a while?

Either way, I dont agree with it, DONT CENSOR ANYTHING and let the people decide for themselves!

Let the people decide? Cant have that you know, our governments, leaderships, gifted "elites" all know what is best for us. Just read what we print, watch what we say, and we promise to keep you safe. (sarcasam)

China, now Pakistan, and the bill granted Obama to kill the internet for 4 months is moving to the Senate floor. If this passes, ANY POTUS, not just O, but the next W, could keep us high and dry for a long time. Anyone here been off line for 4 months?

It will begin in the isolated countries first, because the US and Europe really dont care if "they" dont have freedom of speech, then it will come across Europe to prevent racism, and terrorism, then here. Just a matter of time. Use your Freedoms now, or you are going to lose them.

They can do what they want, it's their country. Start your own country then you can say who can look at what.
I find it hilarious the people that get their knickers in a twist over stuff like this, but yet, VOLUNTARILY, FREELY, KNOWINGLY sign their rights away for some easy credit or access to some useless information.

The world hasn't been free since the advent of laws, police and courts.

If the people elect the government, and the government takes these steps, then the people must want it. And if they didn't, well they shoulda paid more attention to who they gave the power to.

If the Pakistani's rise up and fight this move, then I'll be interested. Otherwise, it's a cultural thing that we have no business judging.

Thank you for helping me un-twist my Knickers!

I was not judging but simply stating that I do not agree with that policy.
When I do start my own country, you will be the first to know, so check in often!

Thank you for your perspective

Dude are you serious?> That post was completely off topic. Do you have anything else to add, besides the copy and pasted bible quotes?

Maybe share a reason for the quotes and how it relates to the OP?

I would love to hear it;

If I were Pakistan, I wouldn't worry about `mere mortal words` on the internet - that's foolish. They should worry more about how they treat their own people and how they take care of their environment (natural resources, animals, plants, etc). I'm sure `God` is watching their actions, too.

Yup I can read. How exactly do your bible quotes w/ Jesus relate to Anti-Islamic internet content that is currently being monitored and/or blocked in Pakistan?

blashemy is in the title and reason right? well there is an authority and source on exactly what that means and to whom it adresses- see scriptures in first post

And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God.-Rev20.4

Yea the title mentions blasphemy...Does that apply to Islam and the Muslim people? Cuz thats kinda what the post is about...I dont see Jesus or the bible being mentioned in the OP.

Last time I checked Muslims read a different book, and don't practice Christianity.

might want to do a little more investigating-they mention much about Jesus and say He was a great prophet yet turn and call him a liar about being the Son-liars are not prophets

If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken— 36what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?-John10.35

This is an attempt by the Pakistani gov to keep their people uninformed, the internet is a massive threat to any islamic country trying to keep their people from the real world. they are simply using blasphemy against their precious prophet as the propagator.
