China bans online love for soldiers

(Reuters) - China's military officers have added matchmaking to their duties, after the government banned troops from online dating over fears that lonely hearts might let sensitive information slip, state media said on Monday.

Commanders of the 2.3 million strong People's Liberation Army (PLA) are studying how to help single service members find love, the official China Daily said in a report on new rules governing what troops can and can't do online.

Thats horrible!!

They cant find work online? Cant blog? Cant even find love anymore!

I wonder if anyone will protest theses bans, although in China I dont think protesting will get you anywhere, (except prison, or heaven)

I wonder what they will ban next? Phone calls to loved ones back home?

Good point about the phone calls to loved ones back home. And emails and letters. All sorts of sensitive information could slip there too.

I wonder if they're already married, dating, or engaged to someone, are they still allowed to online see and otherwise interact with him or her?

The cynic in me would say "Who cares, soldiers rape woman for fun, they don't need to contact heir "loved ones"".
I know that a lot of soldiers are good persons.

It's just another step that shows how extreme the chinese government is. They want total control over the people, they want't to controle what they do, when they do it and if they're allowed to do it.

You have to wonder how long or how much more it will take, until there is a revolution in china. People can't live the way they have to live there.
