The Sun has had a powercut, I repeat the sun has had a powercut...

It was most likely a jet airliner at 20,000 feet or higher and the diffuse shadow passed right over you. When you looked up you couldn't see it because it was too close to the sun, so you thought nothing was there. It's happened to me once before. After a few minutes I saw the jet high in the sky after it moved away from the sun.

Ok - so what time was this... and what time would that have been in Los Angeles Ca?
Something weird happened here too.

Here's a far out theory, Aliens are playing with our Sun, in fact, we're an experiment and we always go wrong, so they have to play with the sun to create a mass extinction event in order to wipe the slate clean and restart the experiment all over again. That would explain stories of ancient cataclysms (Atlantis comes to mind) and other discoveries around the world such as submerged cities in seas and in oceans. So when 2012 comes, the aliens are gonna fry us using the sun just like in the movie 2012. We see the Sun behaving differently, there are pictures that have been shown here on ATS about the sun and how weird spherical objects move around it. Who knows, maybe they have huge planet like drone ships that change the very nature of our sun? Maybe they're ascended into another plane of existence and merely amuse themselves at playing god with new cognitive species hoping to find another equally cognitive life form in the universe? eh, just sayin'...

On side note, no, I didn't see nothin' in the sky to believe your statement, albeit given multiple testimonies, it could go both ways. If you're telling the truth, then my scenario becomes a potential reality, and we get fried by the sun come this 2012.

Since you said it was like 1/10 of a second, I'm thinking an aircraft passed between you and the sun. And because of the angle/altitude/brightness, you didn't see the AC and just thought the sun blinked out. That's my theory, OP let me know if it might be possible.

Its either something to do with what one poster said about the eclipse or....

I can think of a few off the cuff guesses like a minor time dialation or ripple in the time continuum...
Like if somebody discovered time tavel, and went back and killed their grampa by accident, and when he got back the whole friggin thing had to give a minor shudder to adjust the continuum back to its equilibrium. that could be percieved as a flick of the switch so to speak on the sun...reality it is the whole universal continuum that blinks out for a brief nano second,, just the ripples go outwards from the center...
It happens so fast that humans can only percieve it as a kind of indefinable alteration of perception of reality as we observe it.
simple really...
Then theres em radiation of all kinds of stray signals, that could do a similar thing to the brain by passing through the cranium.
An errent radio transmission that just happens to resonate with the fillings of your mouth and the particular electrochemical balance you happen to be in...

Also it could be due to a muse state of mind where reality simply slips away as and when the state is reached,,,ever drive for a while and not know how you got where you found yourself?
its truely a common thing....
We are after all a product of currents and fields amperes(or milliamperes)and volts.
What we see, what we think what we are is wrapped up in the quantum world far more than we now understand..
the ability to make the sound that moves mountains was lost, but that doesnt mean we dont have it in us...
it really is all relative....

When I say a powercut im just joking. It was like someone standing at a light switch ... light off/light on. for like .010seconds.

That very quote calls your credibility into question and only helps prove my point that this is clearly a HOAX

Good job, you've solved the case. You can leave now.

Sheesh, another one to skim over.... "It can't happen. You're suffering a brain problem. YOU'RE A LIAR!!!!" - yep, need more of that...

I didnt see the sun switch off but lst week at my kids sports day both me and my girlfriend saw a black streak of shadow coming from the sun, it looked like a gap in the clear blue sky that we could see space through, i thought it was a streak down my sun glasses at first so didnt take notice until my girlfriend said something about it, she was pretty shaken by it

This is a long shot but you might have a undiagnosed neurological condition like mild epilepsy and it caused your vision to black out for a split second. But then even at that, you said there were other people with you so couldn’t be that and we know that the sun didn’t turn its self off.

Conclusions, sorry your making this up.

Kevinunknown.....

Perhaps it was "tunnel vision" or a "grey out" caused by postural hypotension.

Kind regards
Maybe...maybe not

As a pilot flying a large multi-engine jet I occasionally could observe the shadow of the aircraft from high altitude. On an en-route decent with the power set at or near idle I would expect there would be little noise on the ground, especially if you consider the shadow would not necessarily be directly under the the path of the craft over the terrain. I sometimes wondered if the shadow would be noticeable to folks on the ground, perhaps we have we have the answer with the observation of the original poster. :roll

Nothing like this in Birmingham - apart from the cloud burst at 10am that soaked lots of people in their summer gear

No offence, but dude, maybe your not getting enough oxygen when your smoking. I have experienced this before too and i NEVER thought the sun was in danger. Sit down and give yourself a reality check!

Maybe the earth moved. (it does that you know) and the angle of the sun on your position changed.

Like how it gets dark at night..

Like i said earlier, some of us had this kind of experience a few years back. Strange thing was, here in Belgium and the UK we had some light in the night, and in America there where some who said almost at the same time it went dark for a few secs or some fractions of a sec when there was daylight...

Maybe this was the same story, but then again, why are there a few who see this, when there clearly are millions who aught to experience it...

If you had a momentary interruption in cerebral blood flow the first thing that would happen is your vision would dim.
I have had a similar ocurrance, in my case my vision dimmed then turn black and white(no color),thsi lasted perhaps 1/10 of second.
I would suggest you get a MRI of your cerebral arteries as soon as possible.

So what does/did meet you on the hill mean then?

Go on, you can't leave it like that!

Are you saying he meant that he'll see you when you are dead?

The suspense...

I'd agree if it wasn't for the fact that his mate saw the same thing at the same time.

An exactly the same brain defect, in two people standing next to each other occurring at exactly the same instant is probably impossible, odds wise it's probably millions against.

Doubt it's a medical problem, unless there's a common factor like gas or poison or other external substances. Even then, unless the primary effect of external substances is temporary visual blackouts, i doubt this too.

More likely something positioning itself between the sun and their field of view to the sun. At any distance form them to the sun, so could be near the ground as in a large bird, in the atmosphere, like an aircraft (or balloon, hang glider etc), in space, like an asteroid, ship (!), or something else.

I doubt it's medical.

Have had exactly this occur to me twice. Rather spooky for a few seconds hehe... Culprit each time was a heavy, large, widebodied jet often known as a 747-400, at high enough altitude that it was not easily visible or heard.

Calculations (a loose laymans kmh ground speed not TAS/CAS/knots etc).

Cruise with a headwind and a low average approx 900kmh = 250ms-1
747 length = 70.6 meters

70.6/250= 0.284 seconds of shadow if the plane were right above your head, growing larger with height... about the time interval of what the OP described. Don't ask me to work out the shadow size at 20,000ft or more from a point source such as the sun haha....
