This Article shows what is turning into a nightmare... The uncertainty here is ridiculous...

PENSACOLA, Fla. – This morning residents and tourists in Pensacola Beach awoke to the day they long feared.

The high tide, plus southeast winds overnight, brought globs of oil onto the pristine white sand beaches here. The oil is now fouling those beaches for as one official said, "as far as the eye can see."

So much for "come on down!"

So evidently there were many reports today of hotels etc where everyone has cancelled for the season...

This is really sad...

Folks are being filmed bawling their eyes out over this...

And yet many people still refuse to acknowledge the gravity of this whole situation. This whole thing is such a terrible terrible mess, all of those lives that will be forever changed due to oil and greed....and worst of all, the ocean-dwelling creatures and plants that are going to die because of US. It's enough to make me ashamed to be part of the human race. Why do we destroy that which gives us life?

I am crying my eyes out over this. If you have ever been to that area it is the most beautiful place. The beaches are the color or sugar. You can walk for miles barefoot.
I am so pissed about this I can`t see, all the while the president, congress sits on their ass and does nothing. Instead of vacationing in Hawaii I suggest he pack up HIS family and take them to Pensacola for their next vacation.

Interesting that you don't mention a word about BP...Methinks they had a little to do with this mess as well...and let's not forget that!!

Not any more.

We barely had the place cleaned up after Ivan, and now this.

No more beach runs for me for a while, alas. The kids are not happy about it either. And no telling how much income the area will lose. Again.

At least we've got PNAS - other areas up and down the coast here will lose their big income season with not much to replace it. And this is just the start of it.

Yes I know BP did it but how in the hell have they been allowed to let this whole thing conitnue for the last many weeks saying they are fixing, they are fixing it, they are fixing it, all the while our president sits on his ass, our congress sits on their ass. He should have took control away from BP turned it over to the US military and got it done.
Enough is enough.
If not ask the world for help, is Red Adair still alive, someone else could have done more than BP I am sure.

Hotels and rental properties along the beautiful Emerald Coast should file claims immediately with BP. BP should be made to rent all available rooms and allow volunteers to come stay in the rooms and houses free of charge in exchange for helping clean up the beaches and saving any marine life possible...for as long as this takes.

I know I was there not long after Ivan and there was still the whole top of the beach house back in the lagoon.
I am so sorry what you guys are going through. I live in Ohio but lived there for a short period of time. I love the people there , they were very good to me the short time I was there and every time thereafter on vacation or when I came for work. Federal Government. PNAS.
I was really sick today when I saw the pictures of the beach covered with the oil. The panhandle is my favorite place to go. There is no place else in Florida I would rather go.

Ugh, that video is gut-wrenching
I too am sorry for what y'all are going through down there, and for what is happening to your beautiful environment.

I have my own little selfish reason to be feeling down about this....I was supposed to go down to the panhandle for the first time in my life to meet my girlfriends father and step-mother...they live 40min north of Panama City.
I was so excited, not only to meet the family, but to see the ocean for the very first time in my life. Hopefully your beautiful beaches and sea-life haven't been ruined entirely, and once again very sorry you guys!!!

Please still go Panama City Beach is beautiful too, maybe the oil will not have reached that far east yet. If you have not seen the ocean ever it will take your breath away the first time you see it there in that region, it did me. The first time I ever saw the ocean was in Destin Florida and it was like nothing else. No other part of Florida compares to it and I have been all over.

To have witnessed it for myself today I can assure you it's much worse than the pictures that have been posted. I'm going back tomorrow with my camera. I'll try to upload some video.

One of these days I will still make it down...i'm just not sure that I want to be there while this horror is going on, especially if I can't even lend a hand.
