The Special "TOP HAT" Cover on Top of the BOP has Apparently Blown Off!

Do not freak out!!!! the ROVII feed is a composite of multiple high pressure releases. Now I can't say if they are messing with the real feed or if this is totally fake. I personally believe it is totally FAKE and here is why:

Massive fissure releases vast quantities of oil, tar and gas from Gulf floor, Obama admin use BP as cover story and collapse a rig to explain all the oil and gas. This is why they are not really trying to fix it, as there is nothing to fix the leak has already happened. Gas is still leaking from the sea floor though.

Why do I think this? Look at the feed! see the white material coming in form the left, well watch how it interact with the vertical stream of the material that appears yellow. Most of the time the white substance just flows into the vertical stream and disapears insdie it. If this was a small vertical stream of 1000psi will would be pulling huge amounts of sea water up at the same time. Anything that came close to it would instantly be pulled up. if a human swam near that thing at 1000psi you would look like a cat in a washing machine.

Don't believe me? we need someone who works in fluid dynamics in on this, or computational modelling who can confirm.

There was oil coming out of piping on the top hat a few minutes ago.

I'd like to ask members if they can view any available ROV feeds to confirm that the cover on top of the BOP -- that was helping to "capture" oil and gas -- has blown off.

I noticed this around 10:00 AM CDT, thanks for the OP (S&F). I also saw a brief view from above (around 100 ft it seems) and it looks like the "top hat" is out of the picture completely.

What does it mean? My thinking is that the integrity of the well casing has been deteriorating, and now any backpressure at all is undesirable. The top hat had relief ports from the beginning for that very reason, now it seems that they are just trying to prolong what life is left in the structure.
I don't believe it just blew off or was removed for "maintenance".

The cloudy view of the water around the well site, with semi-frozen oil streamers flying around give the impression that the sea bed is percolating with methane hydrates and oil.

Since no experts (that I know of) are helping us cover what we are seeing on live feeds, I think we are just doing the best we can to interpret the data.

yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I read all about this earlier am on oildrum.com. If they are not replacing the cap anytime soon, it could certainly be a sign they are VERY CONCERNED about back pressures further effecting the integrity of the well!

The top hat stuff being vented has slowed way down and is now green.

I just looked, then they panned down so you couldn't see the green plume!

The latest update is that the top hat may have been removed so that they could install the newer model

Thank you all for the updates. I am at work so unfortunately I can't watch any of the streams. It does sound... concerning to say the least.

If that is the case, they sure are taking their time about it.

I am more inclined to agree with with the casing disintegration theory, personally.

You know, I was thinking this morning, looking at the live feed, that if I could swim through the middle of that stream of oil coming up it would not hurt me. You have got to admit it does not look like 100000 psi right?
Not that I know what that high of psi would look like , but hey I've seen a garden hose flow and I've seen a fire hydrant hose flow.

Thad Allen just said on CNN that they have removed the top hat.

Excuse was that an ROV has accidently bumped one of the valves on the "hat"

This is pure evil. I'm simply disgusted.

Interesting that the article states that there were two deaths, but then didn't discuss said deaths AT ALL.

So, once again, the people trying to stop this leak caused yet another problem, this time due to an ROV mishandling.

We shall see what time brings, I guess.

I must say that when i look at the feed in the OP it looks.... fake.. not the plume of gas etc but where it is flowing out of.. almost as if its an overlay over where it is flowing from while still showing the flow.

When I read that on CNN, I thought to myself "WTF?" I had no idea that the ROV's could move that fast, and hit something with such force that they could damage a forged-steel valve.
