Tests on Hampshire Beaches After Oil Spill

news.bbc.co.uk

A clean-up operation is continuing after oil washed up on two miles (3.2km) of Hampshire coastline when a pipeline leaked in Southampton Water.

About 20 barrels of vacuum gas oil were spilled at Esso's Fawley terminal on Sunday night as a ship was unloaded.

Affected beaches from Hill Head to Solent Breezes were shut. Esso said health risks were "very, very low".

Southampton-based experts Oil Spill Response will assess whether oil has sunk into the sand.

Looks like we have our own oil spill! As is usually the case, the British version appears to far, far smaller than the one in the USA

Seriously though, one has to wonder about all oil companies, their behaviour and whether this story has only made the news because of the ongoing Gulf of Mexico situation. Would it have been reported otherwise? How many times do things like this happen and why?

Anyhoo, I'm not going to go on an anti USA/Obama rant and blame Americans for this, which seems to be fashionable the other way around. The likelyhood is someone at the facility mucked up.
