Let's look at this from a different point :

If you were the leader of an Alien would you want to? if so why?

Its an interesting question. What makes me ponder the most is what scenario would allow that we have conclusive proof that nobody can deny the existense of aliens among us, yet at the same time limit the contact to the type that many have the perception is going on right now. I think there would be the creation of large factions among the human race. For example, some Christians, with very strong beliefs, believe that there isn't anyone else out there, the earth and universe were created for humans. I know because I grew up in such an atmosphere. I believe these people would react violently to the idea of these aliens, as they would be seen as evil entities. I also believe this group would be the smallest.

Religious revolution would occur, I can envision several cults that exist today as small, considered by most to be whacky, becoming large influential religious organizations. The star brothers are watching over us, and so and so is in telepathic communication with them.

Some people would be gripped by fear of the unknown, and the uncertainty of the future and begin building bomb shelters in their backyards. Who knows what the intentions of these beings could be?

But to me, the most fascinating prospects are, what are these entities philosophies and religions if they have any. I certainly would not run out into the streets throwing garbage cans into the roads and tossing moltov cocktails at the army tanks.

We could also expect to see alot of ufo pictures and videos on the nightly news. Speculation would run rampant.

I dont think you would see any mass panic though, unless a scenario presented itself that showed the aliens to be hostile. If it came out that the rumors are true, that the government made an agreement with aliens to trade technology for abductions, then yes, I would guess there would be quite a bit of civil disorder. But that is too much speculation for me.

I was thinking that if there were certain people trying to create an NWO than it would be in their best interest to reveal the existence of aliens. I think there was a quote by reagan stating that in the even we were at war with aliens, humans would become brothers in the fight. But even if the aliens weren't hostile, then we would still come together knowing that we are just one world among many, so that we should come together for the best interests of the world. Then we would take part as a world in the intergalactic federation of whatever...

People are more apathetic and adaptable than I think most people give credit. I doubt there would be mass hysteria. Does the single mother with kids care about aliens? Does the guy who farms for a living care if some alien flies around watching our planet? Will Brad Pitt stop making movies? Will football be disbanded because some alien wants to attend a game? We are human and we will want to continue to live human lives of eating, drinking, flirting, complaining, and dying. We are intelligent and have been groomed enough to expect alien life to exist.

If the aliens are going to conquor us then that would be a different story, but as I said in another post, all the aliens would have to do is sterilize us and 100 years later most the planet is devoid of humans...no need for some hollywood movie invasion. I think the aliens are more worried about us destroying our planet and all its other innocent living species and taking this wreckless attitude into space. Personally though, I am not impressed with the way the aliens have made contact with us and behaved so far (abductions, lies, and ignoring contact with those that they should be talking to).

And if I was an advanced alien leader I would probably do what the aliens may be doing in creating hybrids that understand both the human and alien side of life and thus create a number of ambassadors that people on this planet could look to for answers. Sort of like having a bunch of "Spocks" where they would communicate the human side and vulcan/alien culture. I also would just come straight out and tell the humans that you are an ambitious species that can't control your desires and those desires are going to end up destroying you. And we in space fear that you are going to kill others in space for your own purpose and we are not going to allow that. Oh and I would demand that I be allowed to mate with your Miss Universe contestants every year to see who has the right stuff to create more hybrids.
(Bad PR move with the Earthlings and probably why I would never be picked as the alien leader)

Seriously though I doubt the people would panic, we may be excited and nervous for a couple months to a year, but once things tend to get back to normal (sun rises, phone bills, and mowing the lawn) we will be back to enjoying ourselves hopefully in a better world.

Here is another thought, the US, The stongest military on the planet, spending hundreds of billions of dollars each year to remain so. We can't stop ufo's from comming into our airspace, doing whatever they want (abductions?) and leaving. The mear thought of it send chills down our spins. If our government can't protect us what good are they. If the military can't protect us, why do we spend so much money on it every year. This could cause riots and total chaos. I also feel (my opinion) that most it would cause havoc with major religions.
