Go to NASA SOHO put in "20100620" *** (Do NOT put in 20100619 as the screen shot says that is a different cme sorry!) *** for start date and leave end date blank. select "LASCO C2" for image type and hit search. Allow the next page to load and then watch the lower left side of the picture.

If that was confusing here is a screen shot below of what to do if you wish to see the movie.

I for one think there is something to this!

To me it looks like a big solar flare. But I could be wrong.

If you could tell us what "time" frame that shows what you want us to see that would be helpful.

Looks like a cool halo CME though.

Frames 16 and 17 make sure you used 20100620 as start date. I have never seen CME like this. I have seen fluid dynamic simulation of gas and fluids passing around an object that cause this effect though.

I believe this is a great Halo CME. It is translucent as you can see stars behind as it swirls through space.

It's a great photo op thats for sure. I wonder if spaceweather will pick it up?

What make me suspicious is that they already did a report and video. Only they cut it short so you only see the flare and not the spherical effect!!!!

I tried to put active link but it keeps screwing up so here it is direct :

www.spaceweather.com...

just go to the site and use archive link and set the date for the 20/6/2010 then you can see the movie they have cut in half so you can not see the effect

Spaceweather do mention it, and is described as huge for recent times. They have a movie link, which did not work earlier.

I think that it was a natural effect here are 14 frames of it.

CMEs are affected by the magnetic fields which they carry with them. In this case, probably a magnetic loop. Like a smoke ring but instead of an aerodynamic vortex, it's a magnetic vortex.

Here's a bigger ring from a while ago.

Another was discussed here:

It happens.

Once it got further away from the sun, they were able to use telescopes to view the planet sized UFO...one astronomer took an amazing shot of it.
