It was at around 4000ft. I'm no expert. Just saying that, to me, this does not appear to be an underwater lava 'eruption' I would asume that if it was lava it would be appearing from a pressurized source, but i agree there are extreme pressures involved here and that changes things.

This is a parking spot for the ROV. There is nothing happening at this place.

I bet the ROV pilot is on ATS right now. Probably the OP

I started to doubt it was lava when I saw a red thing come out of a crack and then sit there on the surface. It stayed red - it should have cooled to black.

I don't know what's going on.

I had been watching this last night, and I thought I was clearly seeing glowing hot metal. Someone else said that parts of the equipment are painted yellow or orange and that was what I was seeing. But this had a glow to it.

I knew I was seeing glowing hot metal!

Its really bubbling, haven't seen that before and the red comes and goes. I don't think BP would use the color red for anything as they know we would all think what we are thinking now! I suppose lava could be a good thing to seal it but would there not be a chance of a huge eruption that just sends the entire thing to Kingdom Come? I don't like the way it looks, very scary!

There is nothing going on. There is no lave, if there was you would see gas bubbles forming. Lave is a lot hotter than the sea water.

I also saw the red dot. but i dont think its anything unnatural.

I also think it was a bit odd that the ROV pilot suddenly turned on the propeller as this post progressed. I think this is just show.

Big star and flag for you guys. Reading the posts on the live cam threads is just like the submarine movies. It's seems like you all are peering into a parascope just like in the movies.

Seriously, it's good to know others are keeping an eye out on the broken well and keeping us updated.

I think my favorite post was from the other live cam thread where someone posted...

"Did I just see an alien at 1:11 on this?"

I too, take time out to see what is going on down there but it's good that you all are keeping an eye out and keeping us updated.

Thank you

I definitely saw the black area expand into the white area.
Basically the sea floor changed from white to black.

It was not hot metal as it was located inside one of the small fissures. Also any one else notice that since they put the extra light on Bottom right hand side of the picture clearly shows a blueish light source (could be diode) that you can no longer see the red. As I said earlier if you are a scuba diver you will know that at depth when you look at something red you will actually see BLACK.

"On a perfect day: red is gone after 15 ft. Look at a color wheel and moving away Orange slips away after 30 ft. Yellow and violet are equally absorbed by 70 ft, they are equal in length and equal distances from blue. Then green the last hold out is lost by 85 ft. and blue by 100 ft. Below that threshold everything is blue-gray; eventual black. Using this hypo Black would be defined as the 'absence' of all color."

If that was so, and if something was going on at this location. The ROV wouldn't be fastened to the rusted bar.

I bet this is a very safe location where they park the ROV before heading over to the location. The ROV pilots dont always fly the ROV up into the garage 50m under the rig/boat.

If something was going on here they would have used the AWOL to observe it.

Look under the time stamp on the top right as well. The spot you mentioned looks like it is connected to another spot too.

Your right, it looks like its part of a larger crack. The red could just be light distortion being picked up by the camera and really just shade in the crack.

Just wondering. What is that black stuff above the piping?

Subsea Tech presents a new underwater metrology system consisting in a Laser Pointer and Inspection Viewer software. It is a complete solution for measuring any kind of distance on ROV images. The Laser pointer is made of 4 red laser diodes assembled on a ring. Once they are recorded through the ROV video camera, the images are processed by the post processing software

metrology-system-30441-191490.html

could the big ROV's have something similar?

Here is another ROV with a different laser device, this one measures distance.

see! He's not just parked there and sleeping, he's moving again! Or maybe it just adjusted the camera, panned out and refocused.

There IS something there that they are interested in!
