While this certainly is an eye opener for me, the huddled masses will never see this post, I firmly believe that the American public is partly to
blame for this. The fact is that while the Federal Gov says they relied upon BP estimates of this "spill", it's a human caused LEAK! The MSM was
also caught off guard! The Federal gov and the MSM bought into everything BP told them and they both ran with it. When has BIG ENERGY ever told the
truth about the possible down side of our, and the rest of the world's, lust to provide energy to the world?
Just allow me to play Devils advocate for a bit. Almost EVERY attempt to provide power to the people has inevitably resulted in numerous catastrophes
that span almost the entire RANGE of energy alternatives. My contention is that all of these methods of providing energy always have a downside,
(other than wind and solar and the jury is still out on that).
Lets talk about wood for example, England and parts of it's empire where largely deforested not only for light, glass & heat but the British empire
needed Warships to protect it's interest's. Whale Oil almost brought the Sperm Whale to extinction just to heat lamps. Then came coal... Most
people don't know that a fire has been burning UNDER Centrallia, PA, USA that forced it's evacuation and is still burning to this day and it's
expected to burn, underground, for decades to come. We ALL have been told the risks of nuclear energy and have been assured that it's safe but I can
mention 4X that our safety implementations have caused sever harm to land and people. Certain members of our gov. assure us that ANY drilling in
Anwar would have a "small imprint" on the ecology in that area but any idiot who watches Ice Road Truckers can see that it's not so small and what
they say is NOT SO TRUE. Then there's off shore drilling, nuff said.
I'm not a green guy though I do respect what they are doing. They are TRYING to minimize the impact that energy extraction creates! All of these
solutions are flawed because we can't anticipate every possible problem that may occur. I for one want more regulation and I also realize that
regardless of many steps we take the unforeseen WILL happen! Again no matter HOW HARD WE TRY! What do they call it?? "Cost benefit analysis" is
what these MULTI-BILLION dollar companies call it. They may not like the ultimate costs but MUST be held accountable!
I, for one, want gas in my car. I want my AC and my lights to work. I would also like to be able to afford the resources that are provided to us via
these greedy bastards that cut corners to sell it to us. I would hope that OUR Government can try to minimize the risks involved but I REALLY doubt
that it will ever happen. Our elected officials are whores and sluts that are more than ready to sell their votes to the highest bidder.
I know with the right mix of responsibility and civic leaders. We can ONLY minimize the effects that we will inflict on our world. Tragedies like
this will always happen. Ultimately, I know, it's up to the American people to hold our sluts and whores to the fire.
I am all for Wind, Solar and water, we have to invest in these alternative energy's and look for new ones! But we reap what we sow in this
westernized world and demand a dependable flow of power. If that solution can be solved we'll all be better of.
