Isn't this just the perfect opportunity for people to get work?? Massive oil spill should equal to massive amounts of people cleaning it up right? The UN should punish punish the BP to hire more people to clean up! More people cleaning up requires more protective suits and gear also which means more job opportunities! Hire more people to make them!

Yeah, that's what every unemployed person dreams of- deadly and dirty clean-up work. Such a proud moment for those that get a job working for those that created this mess.
And hell yes, this is a great opportunity for some companies to make a bunch of money selling protective suits, and chemicals-wonder who owns those companies?
But the sheep get a job.

Sorry, to offend, there is just no good view of this situation, not even a job.

A job is a job, is a job
I had NBC training in the Marine Corps, give me the rubber suit and a pay check an I'll go, right now.

i agree. i also thought it could be a way to pay taxes. i provide you with hours of volunteer work in exchange for transportation to such location, and x amount of dollars per hour off of my taxes.

I was listening to the news at work today and everyone was talking about money, money, money. I think if they asked the American people for volunteers they would get one hell of a response.....

Good idea, but it would only create short term growth. like the census takers...
you can't have a Industry that doesn't produce anything. Not that cleaning up oil is not productive, and it would boost the sales of company's who specialize in environmental products. but the bottom line, is their is no product or service being created that has a lasting effect on the economy. It doesn't mean that they shouldn't hire as many people as possible to get this mess cleaned up. but I doubt it would make much difference on the bottom line, of our sorry economy.

I'll tell ya what, I live in the Gulfport area, and there have been people lining up for jobs, that haven't worked since Katrina.

They are getting 12.50 and hour, and per diems, if needed.

The bad part? It's hot, and I mean really hot.

95 degrees, with humidity to match, is not the most pleasant work, when you are wearing protective clothing, but there are already scores of people doing it. Funny though, whenever I go near the beach, they are all just standing around, doing nothing!
