NASA Planetary Defense Task Force to meet July 8

AGENCY: National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

ACTION: Notice of Meeting.

SUMMARY: In accordance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act, Public Law 92-463, as amended, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration announces a meeting of the Ad-Hoc Task Force on Planetary Defense of the NASA Advisory Council.

DATES: Thursday, July 8, 2010, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., and Friday, July 9, 2010, 8:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. (all times are Mountain Daylight Savings Time).

The meeting will be open to the public up to the seating capacity of the room. It is imperative that the meeting be held on this date to accommodate the scheduling priorities of the key participants. Visitors will be required to sign a register when they enter the meeting room.

Yeah I was struggling to figure out where to put this thread but figured this was fairly close considering it's collaborative government task force (no, not military) but of course the military is involved to some degree. Either way, I hate to lean on the mods, but maybe they can move it to a more appropriate forum. I wanted to be more descriptive about the thread in the original post but I'm on my mobile so here it is: Everyone, the original post FYI only !

I know one was held in April of this year. I believe the April meeting was the first, although I am not positive.

Especially as Obama appears to be winding back NASA funding...

Is anyone in Boulder,CO ? You should attend and let us all know what is said etc. I doubt any news will be made at the meeting but it should still be interesting. I would go if I were close by.

The OP didn't mention much of anything so I relied upon the chosen forum to interpret his intent. Now I know my interpretation was incorrect.

I know that the Earth has been hit by big rocks before and will be again. It's a roll of the dice. But that's no secret.

I know that we will be learning more about those big rocks as time goes on because we are actively looking for them now.

I know that, even though at this stage of the game we are pretty helpless to do anything about those rocks, just sitting on our hands is not a very good idea. I was a boy scout. You can look up the motto.

The idea that a big rock could hit anytime is a scary one! I too feel we would be hard pressed to do much about it of one was discovered to be racing towards Earth. Hell, I don't even think would could even agree on how to try to do something about it. We would probably argue until it was too late...

Don't take Phage personally, this is a conspiracy related forum and I think that concept just really irks some folks who are so eager to debunk information here they occasionaly jump the gun.
No worries, if it's posted in the wrong forum somebody will move it eventually and you will get a U2U that will tell you it's been moved to and where they put it.
