Check this little diamond out..... From the BBC. Apparently now you can add showers to the list of things bad for you including bread, C02, H20, 02 and anything else good for you and the planet, oh and bread too.

news.bbc.co.uk...

"Taking showers can make you ill"

Man showering
Shower water can contain harmful bacteria

Showering may be bad for your health, say US scientists, who have shown that dirty shower heads can deliver a face full of harmful bacteria.

Tests revealed nearly a third of devices harbour significant levels of a bug that causes lung disease.

Levels of Mycobacterium avium were 100 times higher than those found in typical household water supplies.

M. avium forms a biofilm that clings to the inside of the shower head, reports the National Academy of Science.

And I guess bathing in your own (or the remains of other peoples) dirt is better instead? Failing that there's always the great outdoors and the weather, but mind the Acid Rain and Volcanic Dust.

One way to remove these bacteria from the showerhead is to disconnect the showerhead from the pipe and submerge it in some fluid that will de-gunk the inside, not sure what the fluid is called but you can buy it in a store.

I've been meaning to do that... Must remember

Aside from the spin present in the article, it is mostly right.

Keep the shower heads clean, as well as the rest of the shower. It's not "unhealthy", it's just putting your immune system at risk for being exposed in such a way.

Frankly, you're probably better off dealing with the "shower gunk" anyway, as opposed to the super chemicals everyone has stored under their bathroom sinks. What a cesspool of destruction and poison that is...

If you stick your head under the sink over all those bottles and concoctions, and take a nice big whiff, you're more than likely cutting 1 month off your lifespan with each breath.

This is why I bathe myself in gasoline, and to dry off I just light it on fire.

talk about refreshing. For the rest of you I would just let the shower run for a couple of minutes before you jump in. I wouldn't worry about this bacteria as you basically have to breathe in shower water, which is highly unlikely.

Showers have been known to expell massive jets of Dihydrogen Monoxide, an oderless colorless liquid which if inhaled in massive quantities has been known to cause death!

And thats not all! Look at the facts about this dangerous substance:

www.dhmo.org...

And every shower in the world has it!

Oh yeah, about that, I forgot to point out that it's riskier to shower in hot water than in lukewarm water since the steam really helps the bacteria along.

No steam= far less exposure so if you don't want to breathe in these bacterias just shower at at a temperature where the water doesn't steam up.

BAN di hydrogen oxide
they almost had the califournia legislature do just that till somebody clicked in...

*snip*
bacteria gets in your mouth and nose when you take a shower
also there is floride which eats brains in your hole
and chlorine will kill your seamen too...
like in submarines when the sea water hits the batteries

some of the chemicals in the soaps and detergentis is pretty ugly too

well
research causes cancer in test rats...
atleast dirt gives you immunity just try not to eat to much

I thought someone would say that, however steam does not contain any impurities or bacteria, as it is pure evaporated water.

you just take off the head and soak it in vinegar... put the head in a baggie you don't even have to take it off. Put a twist tie on it and leave it on, for an hour.

That there is what is called a "slow news day". I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, sounds plausible. That's why its a good idea to remove your shower
head and toss in in a bucket of Bleach and water for a while. Rinse, break
out the teflon tape and snug it back together. Sterilize the little buggers.
Of course you could heat it with a Blowtorch until it glows red if your bored.
Fry the little buggers!

I yea forgot about the floride (bad spelling) thanks..... I heard the steam from the shower makes you inhale the floride in larger amounts than the skin absorbs.

I should of mentioned Asprin in the list of bad things that are good for you too.

I think i will take the hot chicks advice above and wallow in my own bath filth.
