Hallmark Pulls Card After Complaints of Racial Slur

I JUST gave this card to a graduate. The kid is going to college to be an astrophysicist. I can't put up with any of this from anyone anymore. There are real racial issues in this country that need to be addressed. This is not one of them and it may hurt those with actual issues from being helped.

AOL News (June 12) -- Hallmark has pulled one of its graduation cards off the shelves after the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People complained that it used racial stereotypes and contained an abusive slur aimed at black women.

The card's micro speaker has two Hallmark characters, Hoops and Yoyo, bantering about how the graduate is going to dominate the universe. They tell the planets to "watch your back" and issue a stern warning to "ominous" black holes.

That's where the NAACP got angry.

They say that the audio sounds more like "black whores," and that card is implying that black women are not as capable or as powerful as their white counterparts.

I saw this on LiveLeak and am thoroughly disgusted with the overall ignorance shown by even questioning the card, I can hardly stand it. If they can't understand a joke so obviously referring to a scientific reality in space, they need to turn off the tv and read a book. Surely they can find a better way to spend their time than listening to cards hoping for something to complain about. They should be ashamed of themselves. So should Hallmark for folding to these idiots.

This is ludicrous. I can't believe they could even TRY to make a racial issue out of this. They must have a real problem with being black since they think they're under attack by everyone. Including HALLMARK !?!

And the Black culture wonders why they are falling apart. They degrade women everyday in song but a card that has nothing to do with them triggers racism to them.

Agreed! Yet if a colored person goes on a rant about white people ie: Chris Rock it's considered comedy. I have absolutely no problem with people of other races my only issue is they need to stop being so damn sensitive!

This should only be demeaning to a woman who considers herself a whore. the card describes black holes(whores) as ominous, so why would any upstanding black female be legitimately offended by this?

Then again this is L.A. we're talking about, with all the talk of Illegal Immigrants perhaps the NAACP thought they weren't getting their fair shake of discrimination.

Oh, now I want one of these cards... hack it to say "NAACP, you need to be sucked into a black 'hole'!"

It is just amazing how these people consider this horsesh*t of a complaint as advancement. And yet, due to their lack of complaints, I guess rap music calling their race all sorts of degrading names not allowed on this board is A-OK. Just amazing.

There was once a time in this country when the NAACP actually had a purpose. But in today's world, they do more harm than good. This is a perfect example of the harm this group causes.
