You know someone noticed something similar last night , said he thought he saw flames, I saw the video and it looked like flames, but other posters dismissed it as an anomaly, so I didn't say anything so as not to be an alarmist.

Calm down this is just gas spiking no need to evacuate same as old faithful geyser except 1 mile down into Ocean.

Don't worry this is what i do now when I arrive home from class if it was unsafe i would tell you. Next surge according to calculation is between 5-6pm est but still not enough data yet for a schedule.

Stop being a drama queen and pull yourself togeather man.

Yes we know it's a big leak, killing wildlife but it's not like your in a volcano is it now.

Right, I saw it too, last night, something was going on last night.

Now I don't spend to much time watching this so I am not aware of what goes on down there.

WASHINGTON (Army News Service, April 30, 2010) -- At least three states along the Gulf of Mexico are preparing for a potential call for thousands of National Guard members as the nation ramps up its response to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill today.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal sent letters to federal officials asking them to approve funding to activate up to 6,000 Guardmembers to assist in the response to the oil spill.

In two letters addressed to Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates and Janet Napolitano, the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Jindal said the Guard "will provide security, medical capabilities, engineers and communication support in response to this threat."

"Currently, our Soldiers and Airmen are staging for and are engaged in the planning of the effort to evacuate and provide security and clean up for the coastal communities expected to be impacted by the oil spill," Jindal wrote. "They are engaged in the protection of vital infrastructure to include medical facilities, fuel distribution, interstate highways, water-ice distribution and power facilities, which are all vital to the recovery of coastal Louisiana."

The New York Times notes that there seems to be a concerted effort to limit media coverage of the spill these days. Airplanes are being denied permission for flyovers, etc.


A methane burp can not only sink a ship but if you fly into methane you suddenly more than double your stall speed. CH4 = 12 + 4 = 16 H20 2 + 2*18 = 2 + 36 = 38 because the molecules are lighter.. there is less lift if you have the nasty luck to fly over the sea during a massive hydrate burp.

I bet this hazard gets announced soon.

We watched the sparkling hydrate crystals for weeks pouring out in such quantity that people thought it was fire...

I imagine much of the gaseous methane is dissolving in gulf waters as it rises and as it rises it expands... the pressure down there is 5000 psi so as the frothy 'bubbles rise, they increase in volume

Sea Level = 15 PSI

Sea Bed = 5000 PSI
those methane bubbles you saw... they will expand 5000 / 15 = 333 TIMES as they move to the surface AFTER the water is completely saturated with the stuff... When enough water gets saturated and then gets disturbed in some way.. we could have weeks of gas and hydrate suddenly boil to the surface, perhaps causing a wave... and sinking whatever is in the water above it.

L@@K what i would like is Markey or Boxer to have HD feed focused on BOP so I can observe shuddering when these gas spike events happen. They keep shifting damn cameras around screwing with my research.

What happened with HD feeds anyway Senator Nelson demanded this. Eventually I will write a paper on this....


Nothing to fear this is not war of the world only gas spiking/surge events TRUE it's not healthy for the BOP but even if whole well kicked off 100,000,000 barrels released 5000 feet down.

I saw it happen live ....who-me did also , click on the link provided , They are probing around it as we speak ,It caught someones attention on Top ...

I don't think this is a full on blow out as such but there is what looks like some gas and oil surges.
Additionally if you keep watching the feed, there is the main leak burbling out then occasionally a plume from lower down is visible, its caught BPs attention several times because I've seen the ROV cams look down each time its happened as if they're looking for the source.
The only places I can think of are either a connection on the BOP some where or where the BOP attaches to the well head or and I hope not, from the sea floor itself.

I wasn't showing you guys a picture of "What you saw" I was showing a picture of an ROV using its fan to move water/push the leaking oil stream and another spraying dispersant, in order to explain what you may have seen. That or an eruption of oil/gas that does seem to occur occasionally.

Yes log events but don't worry! when you see rov's scramble they are just viewing structural integrity of BOP and tophat device. You probably did see an ROV arm blown off what i saw last night makes what you saw child play TRUST ME! Also please log MAJOR event only little surges are irrelevant and make sure you log time est pst mountain time etc....this helps my research!

Thats insane. I wouldn't put it pass BP to input pre recorded footage as live footage. Yea at this pt I'm just refreshing CNN to see any developements on BP. I don't think they have any real safety protocols for working underneath the sea.

You guys if with a computer can handle it just use a screen capture and study it later I use canopus procorder, you need a good Harddrive. if you keep watching the spill cams it will drive you nuts just record 24 hour loops on Skandi 2 and 1 hopefully Markey gets one for BOP so 3 screen capture and big HD 250gb-500 is fine....and study in free time.

i wonder what happens if all the oil and gas is drained out of the cavity?? Will there be a cave in of some kind?

Does this cavity stretch down to the "core" of the planet?
And if so, is it possible that magma could start blowing out of it when emptied?
Forming or starting a volcano maybe?

Im not a geologist, but these questions have come to mind lately. What happens if they can't stop this thing, and it just blows up into a volcano? or worse? Maybe the cavity will implode and who knows what would happen then.

Any thoughts on this guys?
