Fancy restaurants and Olympic-size pools: What the media won't report about Gaza

fullcomme nt.nationalpost.com

What they won’t tell you about are the fancy new restaurants and swimming pools of Gaza, or about the wind surfing competitions on Gaza beaches, or the Strip’s crowded shops and markets. Many Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza live a middle class (and in some cases an upper class) lifestyle that western journalists refuse to report on because it doesn’t fit with the simplistic story they were sent to write.

Like with a lot of news covered in the main stream media, the whole situation with stories like “activist boats sailing to Gaza carrying desperately-needed humanitarian aid and building materials.”, are totally one-sided. The majority of the journalists who write these one-sided news reports often stay in luxury hotels and dine in fine restaurants, but only report on how bad it is going there.

We must keep in mind that one will find poverty in most civilizations wherever you go on earth.

I shared this link to this news report, so you can also balance your own view on what is really going on there, because if you rely on the mainstream media you will not be able to to form a clear view, but will only be influenced to believe what they need you to believe to fit their (hidden) agenda.

The problem I see with these claims is that it could be seen by some that the Israeli's only bombed factories, leaving the fine restaurants and hotels used by the TPTB in Gaza untouched..

IMHO this could leave the Isreali's looking even worse than they currently do.

VERY good point.

It's obvious why these positions were not bombed...

So people like the OP can use these one liners that stick in the mind of the weak.

Won't work here, except on the few like you.

Please, there is no balance garnered from this article. The comments at the foot of the article speak for themselves and debunk the news content totally.

For a moment, just a moment put yourself in the position of an average Palestinian. Living a life under siege without access to your basic human rights. How long before you start feeling just a little p***** off towards your occupiers?

more Israeli propaganda.

shall we discuss how much land has been
stolen or else they might have had
more swimming pools and more restaurants
than they do now???

I didn't think so

How lucky those pesky Palestinians are!

They have a swimming pool! Wow perhaps they can hold the next Olympic games there - or maybe the next World Cup or ....

We must thank and honor out Israeli Gods.

Funny thing is - this kind of story would suck some nuff nuffs in...

creates a luxury lifestyle for some while others are forced to live in abject poverty as political pawn refugees?

This is what gets me.

First of all its a standard Israeli talking point when it comes to issues on Gaza, so you know who's side this guy is on.

Second, its a ridiculous conspiracy theory! I can't believe JPost and other journalists get away with suggesting either that they are forcing people into poverty, or that the people there are somehow faking being poor.

I looked for other answers for a long time but the only answer I see to the irrational refusal of Israel to compromise on anything with the Palestinians is that they are not going to.

What a joke...

How many pools and fancy restaurants does Israel have???

And yet, how much aid does Israel receive from the US alone??
JUst to the nearest Billion will be fine...

Why does Israel need the help of others is the bigger question!!!!!!!!!!!

Here, courtesy of the Palestinian Ma’an news agency, is a report on Gaza’s new Olympic-sized swimming pool . (Most Israeli towns don’t have Olympic-size swimming pools. One wonders how an area that claims to be starved of water and building materials and depends on humanitarian aid builds an Olympic size swimming pool Read more: fullcomment.nationalpost.com... I doubt the Olympics will be there but they have the right size pool.

Great, can you let us know how many pools Israel has compared to Gaza??

That would help us understand this thread better...

Just ignore my question if the answer hurts your point

Actually dont bother replying...

According to this site its pretty obvious...
Why would Israelis need olympic size pools when they can all have their own in their backyards???

Avni estimated the turnover of the private swimming pool sales and service market in Israel at about NIS 50 million annually.

www.haaretz.com...

So, how many houses in Gaza have PRIVATE POOLS???????

This could be fun

Now look - i think you and I should start a collection for an Israeli Olympic Swimming pool - I mean if those pesky Palestinians have one - it's only fair we get one for the mother land ...

We can't have those pesky Palestinians outclassing the mighty godlike people that own the fairest and most honest country on the planet now could we...

lol, sure but i'm guessing from this comment that they already have enough..

(Most Israeli towns don’t have Olympic-size swimming pools.)

Its not like they are saying there are no Olympic Size pools in Israel..

Just "Most towns don't have one" We can only feel bad for the towns that don't.

Whew! So it's chuckles and giggles in Gaza for some special people.

Thank Allah! I was starting to believe that Gaza was somehow special, with all peoples under the boot of Israel and their Arab lackies.

Now I see it's just a charade.

Now I can turn my attention to hog belly futures in Arkansas.I've borrowed 3 thousand dollars and hope to make a profit of 100 thousand dollars by the end of the year.

I'm being sarcastic, by the way. And not being sarcastic to your post, Just sarcastic to the world, in general.

A couple of mediocre resturaunts and a swimming pool and the Israel genocide supporters are trying to claim that the Palestinians are living a life of luxury? Jeez, is that all you could come up with? One or two 3 star resturaunts for over 1 million people is hardly the life of luxury.

I started a thread, titled Israeli eases Gaza blockade on some banned food items, critics say move insignificant. If the Palestinians are living such a life of luxury, then how it is that the Israelis believe they can ease tention by allowing the lucky citizens of Gaza to eat Twinkies and Doritos?

These current crop of posts about life in gaza are interesting and do offer a different perspective, but, if anyone for one moment believes this gives any sort of justification for the treatment of gaza by Israel then the propaganda is working. Rich people can and always will insulate themselves from the worst of situations. It's not those people we should be concerned about. Gaza is a ghetto ring fenced by a wall. If you think that's all cool, then shame on you.

There will always be those who want to defend the indefensible.
