how can the earth be expanding if matter cannot be created from nothing? if theres a finite number of particles that constitute the mass of teh earth on an atomic level, how is it possible that over the course of 5 billion years its grown so much that oceans have formed? only way woudl be if its its expanding form teh inside out and forming a hollow bubble in the middle. which last itme i checked, its not.
nice try, but more liekly than not the tectonic plates slide around on teh surface , not the other way around.

I don't buy it either, but from a scientific perspective, conservation applies only to mass (and things directly related to it like momentum and energy). When we talk about the Earth expanding, however, we are talking about volume, which can change based on conditions such as temperature and pressure. If these are changing inside the earth, it's possible for the earth to expand in volume.

I like this expanding Earth theory, because it explains the conundrum of the dinosaurs: In today's gravity, they wouldn't even be able to lift their heads, let alone run and jump on their hind legs like a tyrannosaurus. However, if the fossils have been expanding for millions of years, then the dinosaurs weren't anywhere near as large as they appear. Otherwise, the entire theory of gravity goes out the window.

Actually, I kind of like that, too.

And the hollow Earth theory holds some weight as well. Stating that you have "facts" about the Earth having a mantle of molten magma with the continents somehow "floating" around on top of it is actually kind of out there, too. Where are some facts about this? Have you ever been down there? Has anyone? Show me some place where someone has penetrated through the "crust" of the Earth? Who says it is not solid rock all the way to the center for that matter?

The fact that volcanoes spew lava, therefore "proving" the entire Earth is filled with lava, is like popping a zit, and then assuming this proves your entire body is filled with pus.
