Why are people with guns always sent to "aid" people who need food, shelter, or water?

Maybe, and I just wonder how much of the south will be affected?

Is this really the doomsday event we were all expecting which sets off Martial Law American style?

If this gets pulled into the gulf loop current like they say, it will affect the coastal properties from Texas, all the way around to N Carolina
. I had heard in another thread (Forget which one), that tuna migrate to the gulf to breed, well, they use to anyway
And also, just south of the Florida Keys is the only coral reef of N America. The scope of everything lost is nearly unfathomable.

edit to add: Martial law is inevitable, but we'll be the last to know. With the oil spill, economy, too many ongoing wars, and civil unrest on the rise, they will find themselves with little choice but to invoke the police state. Only regional to begin with. That'll be their foot in the door for everyone else.

I just spoke with a close friend who is in the Mississippi National Guard. He hadn't heard anything about evacuations. But I'll let y'all know if I hear anything different.

I'm in the New orleans area. So while I dont sit on the Gulf, I'm still close enough.

Considering what happened after Katrina - all the looting, hardly anybody in the Orleans area will be willing to evacuate. I think it will take armymen physically removing people from their homes to do a large-scale evacuation. All it would take is for one or 2 of those videos to get on the internet, and there would be a national outrage

I have a hard time believing that with the media blackout, that is already taking place, that the government will give it's people the opportunity to post anything on the unrest that they're having on this HUGE and HORRIBLE tragedy of the Gulf Region. I believe (so...just an opinion) the government will most likely shut down all connectivity to cell towers, Internet Service Providers, Telephone Companies, in the event that our Government declares Martial Law on it's people.

My prayers go out to you all in the Gulf, and to other states, and countries that will be suffering from this.

This spill is only getting worse and I have a feeling it'll be that way for a long time, glad I'm going west coast

I just joined ATS specifically for the purpose of relaying a few things I've observed relating to the GOM situation.

I am a life-long resident of the Florida Gulf Coast, having lived in Ft Walton Beach, Pensacola, and now between these two areas. We are used to military activity, since we are surrounded by the Eglin reservation-- we hear bombing and military exercises all the time.

However, Thursday night I was at the gas station and heard a loud noise coming down the highway, which sounded like a bunch of motorcycles. Instead, I saw a convoy of several vehicles that, although i don't know what they were, they looked like jeeps but sounded like motorcycles. The were preceded and followed by several beige humvee's with guns on the top.

I don't know if I'm just ultra-paranoid or scared because of the whole Gulf situation, but this really gave me a creepy feeling. I'm hoping that I just never noticed them before, but my common sense tells me that this is unusual.

Good luck at FEMA camps guys ! And if they ask you to take a shower for oil decontamination, it's a trap.

scenario
1 gulf air blows in people start getting sick
people leave

2 they spray some of the stuff like the time they got caught in cali spraying a custom flu bug off ships steaming up and down the coast
to see how many people wound up in the hospital...
they would claim it was oil spill related

3 they start to burn the oil everything down wind gets smudged
pcbs, added chemicals, dispersant, etc.

4 we are gonna NUKE that sucker
everbody run!

that was a good line

This thread is really getting disgusting.
Look people, whether you realize it or not, the National Guard troops are there to AID people, not to persecute them.
Our military forces consist of fine individuals who give their time, their efforts, and sometimes their lives so that the rest of the crybabies that condemn the military can live in freedom.
When I see people crying about the military, I feel that perhaps a universal draft should be re-instituted. Perhaps if you walked a mile in their shoes, you wouldn't feel the way you do.
It's time that people stop acting like babies when it comes to the military. Maybe four years in the military will turn you into men and women, instead of the crybabies that you are.

I see both fear and anger towards the US Guard troops, and am extremely happy to be living in Canada at times like these. In our few disasters that we have had, usually weather related, we greet our military with open arms, as they come carrying snow shovels instead of guns. I think if we saw them armed the way the US is armed we might feel different though

When the air starts smelling like oil, there is likely gonna be benzene in it..

If you want to 'stay' in that stuff you should read the following carefully so youwill know what you are in for:

Potential Health Effects

Inhalation: Causes respiratory tract irritation. May cause drowsiness, unconsciousness, and central nervous system depression. Exposure may lead to irreversible bone marrow injury. Exposure may lead to aplastic anemia. Potential symptoms of overexposure by inhalation are dizziness, headache, vomiting, visual disturbances, staggering gait, hilarity, fatigue, and other symptoms of CNS depression. Chronic: May cause bone marrow abnormalities with damage to blood forming tissues. May cause anemia and other blood cell abnormalities.

Chronic exposure to benzene has been associated with an increased incidence of leukemia and multiple myeloma (tumor composed of cells of the type normally found in the bone marrow). Immunodepressive effects have been reported. This substance has caused adverse reproductive and fetal effects in laboratory animals.

You are gonna feel inebriated, and start doing dumb things and if you stay in this long enough it can make your children ugly.

Ozone can get rid of it inside an enclosed structure but where are going to go for milk and eggs when everyone else has hitailed it out of town.

Thanks for posting that.

I have known about that for some time, it's all part of agenda 21.

Now my question is, why are the gruard here and armed to the teeth? You normally dont see HUMVEE's with .50 cals mounted on American Streets.

You also dont normally see a oil rig spewing millions of gallons of oil into the gulf every day.

Well you make a good point.

However the people here won't put up with that level of agression for long and firefights will break out.

I pray that it doesn't but Government needs to come clean about their plans. And they need to do it fast.

I don't care who the hell they are if they come to remove me by force I will fight and I know I will die in the process but I will be taking some of them with me!

If they want us to leave just tell us the air is toxic and we will peacefully evacuate. But showing up and using force first ...

I don't think anyone that is a real American is cool with that.

Seriously? You'd fight against the people trying to remove you from an area that may be full of gasses that will kill you and everything around you?

That's not very intelligent, AT ALL.

Such paranoid delusions of living in RedDawn help no one, and spread fear and mis0trust.

Thanks for the Sanity. I, too, am disgusted by the doomsayers who seem to actually WANT the doomsday scenarios to play out so they can pretend this is Red Dawn or an episode of GI Joe.

Those of us who live in reality have no need for such fear mongering. It's too bad ATS doesnt just boot them off, but at least i can place all their fear and dis-info on 'ignore'.

Thanks. I agree completely. I do try to reason with people, and certainly don't ignore people just because we disagree. At some point, however, when it becomes obvious that they aren't even addressing the questions or points in a rational way, I hit the ignore button. Eventually, I remove them from the ignore list, unless it becomes obvious that they just want to troll. Then they make my ignore list permanently.
