Just glanced up at CNN News - they had Bill Nye on, seems it might be ONE MILLION gallons leaking a day.

1 million

1,000,000 per day.

I'll call it stroke then... I don't have time to keep up with your medical records, nor your pseudo-expertise on our planet when you're not even sure how it was formed.

I'm just glad you're still kicking, and made a smart choice to quit. Now if you would apply some of that excess oxygen to your brain, we might all benefit...

Instead of relying on BP and our government, perhaps we should ask those Charmin Bears for some extra absorbent wipes! Unbelievable...

well your theory that this horrible even WONT cause deaths or destruction, is just as valid as it happening. Of course the Earth has natural oil leaks and what have you, but this is MORE than just oil that is being spread throughout the Gulf Doc! THe dispersant and who the hell knows what else thats being put into our oceans is dispicable and should not be taken lightly!! We are too early in this disaster to know what will happen, but this will NOT BE GOOD!

Get a grip.

We survived after the spill in 1979 even though we were lied to, and the SAME THINGS happened; so...it stands to reason we'll live through this.

It will cause more illness, cancer, and mutated wildlife, but we will survive.

I roll my eyes at DOOMSDAY scenarios.

Hey Doc - do you remember seeing oil coming up from below the BOP a while back?

I'm still trying to verify a leak at the base.

BTW - I think I saw a new low today. Hope you're doing alright.

Good call on the "fire" thread the other day too.

I have CNN on, better pay close attenion, didn't hear this! OMG - don't want to be a Doomsday seeker but I am starting to wonder what's going to happen as all of this unfolds and gets worse. I know it isn't going to get better - the gulf is gone, that's for sure.

But dude, this one is so much bigger, physcially, a much much larger pocket, so we've not really experienced something this large before. Not defending the doomsday thing, im actually reading through this thread to find out how a doomsday event could unfold? can this be that bad? someone explain.

It doesn't "stand to reason that we'll survive it because we survived the Valdez" because the Valdez spill was very different and much less oil.

Until they get this stopped, it has the potential of becoming the deadliest ecosystem catastrophe of this century, so far.

I wouldn't call it doomsday, but I would call it much worse than the Valdez spill.

Doc Velocity I think your missing the really obvious point in all of this.

I understand your saying that oil seepage occurs naturally in the oceans from the ocean floor, but this is HARDLY a "natural" seepage now is it?

Have you even looked at the video feed from down there? Its a god damned volcano of oil spewing out like there's no tomorrow.

Doc, the oil can be seen from space. Outer space. When have there been any other times a natural oil "leak" could be seen from space?

Using the word DOOMSDAY may be a bit much. As the oil itself would not create the world to die. But it will be doomsday for the American economy I p[promise you that sir, and it is the event to tip industrial civilization over the cliff. This I also promise you.

But you cannot sit there and spout your big bold words that there is ZERO to worry about and that this situation is not dire in its consequences... Use some common sense here man.

Natural seepage is one thing, a man drilled hole with anywhere between 70,000 to 120,000 barrels a day erupting out uncontrollably is another.

Not everything is a conspiracy.

Nonsense.

Show me the precedent for ANYBODY dying as the result of an oil spill. There is no precedent.

To make these sensational, ignorant statements about "doomsday for millions" is flat out fear-mongering. A HOAX. There's no Science behind it whatsoever.

You have got to be the most ignorant one on this site at this moment.

Soon you will see.

I still can't believe this is all happening.......

I'm fearful of a mass exodus of coastline residents moving inland.

Just under 1 Million Florida residents are employed by the tourism industry!

Where are all of these people going to find a home, and a job???

Scary stuff.....

I pray that the government only issues an evacuation if lives are at stake!

We are still thinking in the way that the society want us to think. Yes this is not good for the nature and our eco system, but it is not something we can deal with. Where is the problem? Money, that is all. This is just part of a bigger picture and it will only effect the illusion that has been built in front of our eyes. How to deal with it? Well right now we cant really because we are not in control and money is still ruling. There is the problem that needs to be dealt with.

How? Well we need to reclaim ourself from the culture engineers and start to approach this thing life in a whole new and different way, filled with love respect and understanding. I see why its hard to connect it and why it seems like it has nothing to do with this. But this is the only solution, and that solution is spelled you. Again this is the changing times and we need to see it as that. Our history is spinning so rapidly, we have the society in one hand and universe in the other. Just move away from the society thing and walk into yourself aka Universe, everything.

It's impossible. We can now just hope that some alien civilization decide to take control of us.

Even if it does not cause mass extinctions up the food chain, it is entirely possible for the oil to get into the atmosphere and when people breathe it in, it could cause death. There was a thread somewhere on here about that. So maybe you should wait and see before you end up having to eat your words. You do not know what the future holds.

To make these sensational, ignorant giant words about how this oil spill of epic proportions is "nonsense" and "zero" to worry about.. is really ignorant and makes you kind of look like a "disinformation agent". Or maybe you don't really believe what you are saying, you just really want to believe it, so you say it like it's true... you're only fooling yourself, if that's the case.

Just because no one has ever died from an "oil spill" happening doesn't mean it's not possible.

I would be willing to bet any amount of money that you are wrong.

I agree with you Doc, there has been a lot of fear mongering as a result of this spill. But the amount of oil leaking into the gulf from this well is not natural. The earth had developed a way to keep this from ever happening, but BP drilled through it to get to the oil. Time will tell how bad this is going to get. As of now it appears that BP and TPTB are trying to keep this under raps, not blow it out of proportion to monger fear. That's being done by Billy Bob on forums all over the internet.

I'm in total agreement with the criticism of Dr. Velocity on this one. Cancer, autoimmune disorders, central nervous system damage can take years to show up and the health care industry will be fully complicit in trying to keep the effects of the Gulf blowoiuts in question until enough people die that their costs can be contained.

There is no great reason for us to trust our government or any government to be at the forefront in truthtelling and even less to believe that private corporations will do a better job. Everything is about liability and pushing costs back and minimizing them in the long run. in the meantime, they hope we will all die.

Corny as it sounds, "we the people" have to step up to the plate and get this done or demand that this get done, if we can't help directly. God Bless ATS for getting the truth out before the rest of the media: they will be the least helpful of all.
