President Barack Obama would have fired BP's CEO Tony Hayward over controversial comments downplaying the Gulf oil spill — if the executive had been working for him.

During an interview with Matt Lauer on NBC's TODAY to be broadcast Tuesday, the president added his voice to calls for Hayward's resignation amid claims from a former EPA lawyer that BP is a "recurring environmental criminal."

I would have fired BP chief by now, Obama says

I agreed with the President on this for sure, and I think I know whos ass he wants to kick and I agree here as well.

I think we are dealing with a incompetence situation and maybe the Federal government needs to take over completely.

Go Obama

He absolutely should be fired. But will probably get his golden parachute. All he will be leaving is his responsibiity and then he will go slog it out with his millions on some nice beach that isn't about to be inundated with an apolcolyptic oils spil. He should be demoted with a salary cut. Send him out to the front lines.

Did this guy actually cause the catastraphe? Or is his termination just to make people feel better?

BP may have been incompetent but the fed inspectors did sign off on the rig.

I may be an incompetent mechanic but if a real mechanic looks at my halfassed brake job and says "looks good to me" that mechanic isnt exactly more competent despite what the little certs in his office claim.

I love how the fed can blatently be the town fool time and time again and still they always come out on top as the holy savior and infalible grace.

Has anyone else noticed that recently we've been hearing more and more these types of statements? Seems like before hand you never heard Obama say bad about anyone, now he's two hairs away from cussing out some poor fellow.

A lot of people should be fired over this, and new laws passed to close the loopholes that this was using to be built. Not like the law is ever followed by these morons anymore....

Well, that is sure bravado rhetoric from a incompetent.

He never worked in business.

If the U.S. was run like a business he would never have been hired.

He is an idiot and even the most competent liberals are realizing it.

ObaMao makes Carter look like Reagan.

He did not even know the head of the MMS resigned until the media twerps told him.

Yes, he should be fired over this fiasco.

Will he be?

I highly doubt it. Big business isn't going to take pressure from the the government or the populace to remove him from his position.

Although the shareholders might have some weight in this situation.

Hopefully they ask for his resignation. They've lost enough of their stock already.

Obama would have fired the BP CEO? All he has to do is bail out the company like the government did with General Motors and then he can fire the guy, just like he forced Alan Waggoner to leave GM.

Actually I agree with you on this. Why should the BP chief be fired for this? The people in charge of safety protocols and mechanics should be fired.
