I tell you my friend sometimes threads like this just makes me wonder where our educational system has gone.

If people knew the history of the bible and specially the old testament they will not be asking the same question over and over.

well said.

But maybe the op is rather trying to get at why they are still referred to as "gods chosen people". To refer to themselves, or have others refer to them as "gods chosen people" in this day in age is just plain ignorant and backward.

Why are we having this discussion.???? Gees! were all the chosen people as seen through the eyes of God. That was the old covenant. Take a theology class

Some are. Genesis with Gilga. That being said sumerians are Pre-jewish linage. So that would be like saying isn't my dads drinking problem due to my great grandfathers drinking problem

anyone that claims they are the "chosen ones" will be the first to be wiped out by other men in power.

Most religious people think they're "better" than non-believers or people who believe in a different God. It's all bull#, and they're all delusional...

Why worry about the rubbish about the jews. You are who you are, and they are them, so what. Let them be big headed if they want, so what.

That would be fine, except the concept of their being "chosen" found its way into the stupid heads of influential people in this country. Even here on ATS, I recently read "they are chosen and we must stand by them no matter what".

And THAT is a real issue. There are Americans who put another nation first.

The phrase is generally interpreted to mean that God chose the Hebrews to reveal himself to mankind as the one true God. It was never intended to mean that Jews are superior to others.

That being said, perhaps you have heard a Jew say, "Please, God, for once choose someone else." LOL.

They WERE.
Well, I wouldn't say "Chosen people", but they had many FAVORS from God. And he helped them, and led them to Freedom.
And they thanked him how?
When Moses said to them, "God is commanding us to go and fight the wicked tyrant people", they (his own people, whom he had JUST saved from Pharaoh) said: "You and your God go and fight. We will sit right here" (Quran, 5:24).

That is why God then CURSED them. It is in THEIR bible. Moses cursed them. David cursed them. Jesus cursed them.

God kept sending them so many prophets to guide them to the right path, but they just wouldn't listen. Some of the prophets would they mock, and some would they slay.

Bologna.
Some of the passages of the Talmud are 'generally interpreted' to mean that non-jews are considered animals, and that's one example of many talmudic doctrines that are disquieting. Some of them are petty and some are sickening at best, but even in the bible, particularly the Torah, there's no mistaking the meaning of the term 'chosen', and looks to me to be quite intended.

This idea of chosen shouldnt rankel anyone really. Although it is irritating when someone is selected over ourselves for something for no other reason than the selector just felt like it.

But fear not! This chosen condition of the Jews does not lessen the rest of us. Its about being selected for a purpose....they have thiers and we have ours sort of thing.

Christ was a Jew and He made a point out of reminding some of it now and again.

I know this one...
The Hebrews (jews) were "chosen" and protected because it was from that cultural lineage that the son of God would be born into, nothing more. As for the rest of us, we are Gods creation all the same.

Unfortunately for some its rather a bit more complicated than that. You take the Jews for example they are far more than simply a line of people that the son of God was born into. Twice Christ made non Jews note that He was a Jew. Its a good bet He has problems with antisemitisam.

What if god really meant chosen as in chosen to do his dirty work....

As in chosen to be the deciders of what happens.

Hence why a ton of jewish people own stock in a lot of important aspects of all humans lives......

He uses them to keep control......maybe that is what is meant....
