i have been thinking lately that if the SHTF, who will be there to come with me, i think i could survive pretty well along, for how long im not sure, so i thought, who will head to the hills with me?
as an estimate theres probably 25 males and probably the same amount of females (i'm only counting from the children who are 18 and upwards.)
between us we have a various amount of experience, i guess about 5 or under of the males are over 50, 10 between 35-49 and another 10 from 18-35, this is just a guess though.
most of us can hunt, fish, and basically survive, we all have access to farm land up on the mountain, and not to mention a fair amount of arms (everything to pistols, to .22's, to sub's).
i think as a "tribe" we would survive well, how about you?

by the way, i'm talking about a situation of society breaking up.
considering there is 10-15 of us who have strong arms and can use them effectively, i'm sure looting would be part of the situation, i'm not talking about looting shops, more like the people in towns trying to trade what they have left for food. i doubt there will be much of a police force here, since it is weak anyway, how good can the officers be if theres drug dealing going on every other house and beatings, robbings everything going on, i can't believe how the police just drive through this area and give no thought to do anything. usually there are only community officers that you see in the street (probably 4 of them that go round in pairs), i'm sure these would not still be in service and no force anyway.

Women, Children and out of shape males will get you killed. What you describe sounds more like a hippie commune than a shtf gang of ruthless killers that will be the people that survive.

Mobility is the secret to survival. Those hunkering down will be targets for the real survivalists. It'll be fun!

Thank you, let me know if you hear of anyone else. I really am on my own here. How do you know so many people that would be willing to raise up arms if the SFTF

I have had this hypothetical conversation a few times over the course of the years with various friends. This tribe you are talking about sounds all well and good to start out, but after time goes by you will have more and more occasions where a power struggle can take place..

picture your running low on stores and one person of the community says well lets go see what we can take from the people over on the next mountian"we see there campfires at night we smell thier meat cooking, my family is hungry"type deal

and then thier is a group of you who agree and another group who disagree, i think you see where i am going with this...

So to sum it up in my opinion i will be relying on my Family, where we already have a semblance of hierarchy and mutual respect and most importantly LOVE.

thanks for the post !

Mine is a number of 3-5 people, give or take a few. I see smaller numbers as easier, considering not as many people need food.

If something really bad happens i kill myself, plain and simple. I wouldn't want to "survive" in a world without future and as a woman, i can see what will happen (from raping to whatever) so i better end it as fast as possible.

I mean, imagine there goes a nuke off around where you live or imagine earth gets hit by an asteroid. Would you really want to continue with your life in a completely destroyed world, without any rules, everytime the risk of getting robbed, killed or whatever? I certainly wont.

My missus, my bro, an his missus. Since we were kids we've had an unofficial zombie escape plan after watching Romero movies. A bit of tweaking and it's a SHTF plan. In all seriousness though I have my seeds, my BCB Nato survival kit and my crossbow.

The wife thinks I'm paranoid, so I hit her with one of these "A prudent man foresees the difficulties ahead and prepares for them; the simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences."

She's an atheist though so it usually falls on deaf ears!

I have to stubbornly refute this! I had a discussion with a few folks recently who had the same opinion, looking around the room I was the youngest by 20 years. So I said that's alright for you guys who've lived a full and long life. But I'm in my early 20s and I'm not ready to go yet. So even if I have to scrape a living out of a mutant-bandit infested post-apocalyptic world... you better believe I'm gonna do it! Life's 4 living whatever the circumstances.

Ps apologies for the massive avatar I'm working on it

Oh i'm only 24 also, but i say: What whould such a life be? Just try to imagine it or if it helps watch some post-apocalyptic movies or play the Fallout Games to understand how it could be (Certainly reality would be even worse than some fantasies)
I just don't think that struggling to survive in a destroyed world without hope is it worth, risking your life and i mean certainly most people would go berzerk in such a situation and develop right back to caveman and i don't want to experience that.

But tell me why would you want to survive?

It'll just be my disabled wife and I if/when the SHTF (unless my mate can make it over here) and depending on how bad my wife's health is if/when it happens, there is a very good chance that I'll have to euthanise her in order to minimise her suffering and ensure my own survival. At least we have enough medication in the house to make it quick and painless for her and on the up side whatever I left over will be worth a packet...if I can stay alive long enough to sell it! lol

Not all of the SHTF scenarios involve global nuclear war..

there are a ton of other scenarios out there that are perfectly survivable with some foresight and preperation, to blindly say if something bad happens ill commit suicide is very disturbing to me.

I know this wasn't directed to me but if I might....

To release the dark side of the human psyche. To experience the primitive will to survive with no rules, no restrictions or laws and feel the thrill that our ancestors must have felt to know life at it's most basic, instinctual level.

Civilization is actually a thin veneer over what basically is a savage, cruel, warlike, species. I'm astonished that we have lasted this long with out reverting back to the stone age.

I always asume the worst possible scenarios. Be it nuclear, an asteroid, Yellowstone in the worst possible way. After something like that i just don't see much sense in going on with my life.

Of course some small war isn't that "bad" (i guess i would also stick through another world war, my grandparents survived them so i should be able to do it) and i'm thankful i don't live in a place that has earthquakes or tornadoes and even floods aren't much of interest for me.

And why is it disturbing? It's my own life i end, it's not that i take other people with me or harm anyone with it. I just say i won't continue in such a world.

There are two people up in Colorado who I would join as soon as a SHTF scenario seems imminent. They are both highly intelligent, creative, physically fit, and able to go long periods of time on minimal supplies. I would most definitely not take along women, children, or physically/emotionally/intellectually unfit people. Only the fittest among us will survive what's to be in the coming decades.

It wouldn't be a good life for sure. I mean it would definitely suck compared to my current situation where I actually have the option to watch apocalyptic movies, and play great games like Fallout. I'm just saying though I've always been a fan of a struggle and a challenge and I'm not just gonna roll over and die because I don't have healthcare, Mc Donalds, and my flat screen!

In many ways after the initial horrors and hardships perhaps my life would become richer as I leave material possessions and shallow beliefs behind, to live off the land and truly earn everything I have thereafter. Also I agree not all scenarios revolve around nuclear weapons certainly not a global exchange.

Personaly, a lot of the towns around here are community based, own currency, make their own explosives, and are organised into things like pioneer corps and revolutionary corps... so think I'll be sticking with them
we got lots of animals and crops to

I've got the sea, the rivers and the hills (granted they only rise 600 feet) within 1/2 mile, numerous underground bunkers.. HMS Forward is across the hill from me, so depending on the scenario.. your find me sitting by the river with a beer in my hand and feet in the river, waiting for me mates to turn up..
