I just want to express my feelings of what this site known as ATS means to me

ATS, I have found, is family to me. The definition of Family:

Family: a social unit living together; a collection of things sharing a common attribute; a person having kinship with another or others;

and most importantly per the OP:

an association of people who share common beliefs or activities.

More so and in likeness to ATS, love, hatred, knowledge, indifference

Love is normally or ideally what cements relations within the family (Porot, 1954). Coexistence under the same roof and ties of blood or affiliation are not in themselves enough to build a home upon. Knowledge, love, hatred and indifference are the differential polarities which structure the emotional systems within a family.Though there is an invariant aspect in these fundamental affective oppositions, it appears that their differentiation is very largely an effect of the experience drawn from events lived through within the family of origin. Rather than propose here what might be a definition and a fortiori a ‘theory’ of what these terms convey, it is more important to identify the manner in which the various members of a family will invest these emotional aptitudes in relation to one another and the way they will conceive the categories thus created.

In the spirit of John Vincent "William One Sac" Crawford. I ask that every Member of ATS realize that we all have an opinion. In the grand scheme of things we're all Human. We all bleed red. This is just a post to make you aware, no life is better than another. The gift of life was given to each and everyone of you, cherish it, for it is short lived, embrace your humanity!! That person that you're quick to criticize, walk a mile in his/her shoes before you do. ATS I consider you my brothers and my sisters.

You are like Family to me, literally, I don't know the majority of you from Adam. Of those I don't know, I may on occasion disagree with you. That doesn't mean I don't respect your views regardless if they counter my own. There are those of you that I fully agree with, and those that I am rather close too. There are the select few that I would give the shirt off my back for.

To me, ATS, and the people that make it up, mean that much, call me sentimental, none the less, this is Home for me. I am thankful for the Above Network L.L.C. Without them, no matter if you're a believer or a skeptic, your voice would be that much more silenced without this site.

ATS, I

I'm sorry UberL33t, I'm leaving you.

I know how you feel about me but I just don't feel the same way - you're smothering me and I think it's best that we seperate now before too much damage is done.

Just know this...it's not you, it's me. We've had some great times and I won't forget them for a minute but I had to do this - I need some space right now.

I'll never forget you.

P.S. I'll be round to collect my tin-foil hat sometime this week. I'd rather you were not there when I did so I will phone in advance. Thanks.

Though we won't be able to carry on our relationship as it was, I hope that we can still be friends, as your insight has and always will be breath taking.

Ubber,

nice thread my friend. I try to stay out of the heated discussions for the most part, and I think I am a lot happier for it..

ATS has sorta become like a home to me too I guess. I think it's more like jail would be as a home, because I just..can't..seem..to..log..off..,..

Peace.

Just like every family, we have our dysfunction, our crazy aunts, dirty minded uncles, and our second cousins twice removed...(ya'll know who you are)...
But like the OP stated..we are family.
I dunno how or why it's different here than anywhere else.
I just accept it.

Family? I don't even like my real family. More like a tribe of children reminiscent of "The Lord of the Flies"

There are some here on ATS though, that I have never met in person but I feel a close connection to; More so than even some of my RL friends.

And I have met some members and mods in person for an even more intimate personal connection.

Great thread.

I've come to sincerely love the members. Some do steam my biscuits from time to time but I'm generally over it in 5-10 minutes. And even then, it's natural. When you grow close to others and develop a genuine concern for them, you'll feel the negative emotions as well as the positive ones.

Like AD mentioned above, a family includes the crazy aunts and weirdo uncles, too. But it's still a community. Of course, the occasional asylum escapee shows up but they don't last long.
