This probably happened many times before we were able to keep an eye on the sun. My question is, is the solar flare supposed to hit the northern hemisphere or southern hemisphere? It would be nice to see something and take a couple pictures to share with everyone

The very first picture reminds me of the movie "The Fountain".
I think this is interesting but what does it all mean?

not a solar flare, but solar wind that will "hit" us. we cant really see it coming. We know that it is streaming out of the sun, but we cant see it, we can only witness solar wind through its effects on our magnetic shield.
Just keep watching this site (updates every 15mins)

pfft, nothing but fear mongers here at ATS.

The Sun and the Earth have been dancing around for a long time, and will continue to do so. The Sun will not explode, it cant be split in two, it just doesnt work that way lol

Except that the Earth's magnetic field has been weakening since at least 1840, and it is now about 10% weaker in some areas, and in others it is 15% weaker if not more. And that is not counting the large breaches which have been forming in the Earth's magnetic field.

The Earth's magnetic field hasn't been this weak for about 400,000 years.

BTW, the above is showing the strength in the fluctuations of the magnetic field, and as it is the fluctuations have been towards weakening the magnetic field.

Since the Sun's magnetic field has been very weak lately the Earth itself has lowered her defenses even more, which is part of the reason why NASA, and other scientists are worried about what could happen if the Sun suddenly wakes from it's slumber.

Michio Kaku himself has stated the following.

One more thing, the world is not going to end, but if this happens there will be many changes to our way of living, in at least some areas.

No but changes in the Sun do affect us, and in the past changes in the Sun have sometimes helped mankind, and at other times it has sent us back to dark periods of time.

Hi EU,

Interesting indeed. With the Sun increasing its activity, the next few years are going to be interesting to say the least.

I think the latest release from NASA shows us they are concered too.

We've never been so dependent on technology which is the scary part.

Always thought Dr. Michio Kaku was treated disgracefully on FUX News.

I agree to the treatment of one of the smartest people on the planet as being a disgrace. Serves up a great reminder as to why I hate the mainstream. A disgrace to itself most of all.

Seriously people, with the OPs pic this very well could be the last moments of our sun and our world. We could explode at any time !!!

I urge you now to cure your virginity, drink a case of beer and party like its 1999 because this may be your last chance to do it!!

Or , this happens all the time and it will happen again every 11 years or so.

But wouldn't the partying option be fun though?

EARTH REBOOT COMING

Who on Earth thinks that Earth does not need a reboot? Maybe not Earth but the ants pissing her off? Raping her since they knew how. Polluting her since they knew it was wrong. Time to reboot all not aware humans. Like a Planetary X-RAY CHANGE IS COMING.

Oh man! My hands went down to protect my groin when I first read that, thinkin of whats headed toward us... then I heard it wont get here till the 6th-7th and thought of an even better idea. Only thing is, it might get a little itchy wearing a tin foil diaper around for a week... plus I`ll have to make extras for changing when I have an oopsie. No, thats a terrible idea, nevermind... just forget I said anything!

I believe there is strong connection between sun and earth in terms of magnetic field and effect that CMEs have on it.

It's not an exact science, but 90% of world's strongest earthquakes happend after big coronal mass ejection and magnetosphere being under pressure...

How prepared are any of us for the worst case scenario from this probable coronal mass ejection to Earth? What about you?

Thanks for the link. Ill be sure to keep an eye on it. I did mean to say solar wind instead of flare, but I dunno what happened lol. So this wont be a 1 min thing once it hits our magnetic field right. The effects would be there for a little bit.
